Summary

When does enlightenment come? At the end of the spiritual journey? Or the beginning? In After the Ecstasy, the Laundry, Jack Kornfield - author of the modern classic on American Buddhism, A Path with Heart - brings into focus the truth about satori, the awakened state of consciousness, and enlightenment practices today. The result is this extraordinary look at the hard work we all must do - the laundry - no matter how often we experience ecstatic states of consciousness through meditation and other disciplines.

Sweeping in scope, and warmly told by one of American Buddhism's most trusted voices, After the Ecstasy, the Laundry is a work of both deep inspiration and daily instruction that cuts through the confusion about what enlightenment really is, who it comes to, and how it continues to inform and guide our spiritual lives.

An original audio adaptation of Jack Kornfield's book, After the Ecstasy, the Laundry.

The calming voice of a true teacher

I have always loved Jack’s teachings from the first time I heard them. Now I can listen to them in his calming voice, that truly makes me feel one. This book is for anybody who wants to open their mind and heart to the great words of wisdom of not only Buddhist, but Christian, Muslim and Hindu gurus and teachers.

Inspirational

I was put off slightly by the wonderfully calming tones of Jack's voice ~ some times it drifts into background sounds and makes me feel sleepy .. But.. I persisted and I'm so pleased I did! It was truly a wonderful gem of the dharma 💞~ it inspired me and came just at the time when I needed it the most. Thank you Jack Kornfield💞

Broad, encompassing, soothing, beautiful.

Broad, tries to encompass the various ways. Lovely examples of the inner world of seekers when they encounter the spiritual. And just lovely and soothing to listen to.

Lovely book, well delivered but content not as expected.

The author has a really nice delivery and obviously lots of experience. He offers his own teachings along with quotes from many masters, so it’s a pleasant listen but not quite what I had hoped for based on the title and sample. I was hoping to hear the experiences of others after their own awakenings, Of how they coped with the changes & turmoil of post realisation. I’m yet to find a book that offers such accounts & help for those who have undergone enlightenment to some degree.

Bursting the bubble of delusion

Jack Kornfield excellently dissects many popular myths and delusions about what realisation is or isn't. By removing all that is false, he expertly points at truth without forcing us to see any more than is true for us. As such, the narrative is universal to truth seekers of any faith. Thank you for being such an amazing fast tracker of spiritual development!
