Summary

Collected here are the first four books of the eight books, best-selling epic Adrian's Undead Diary.

The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived.

Book One: Dark Recollections: Beheading a zombie isn't easy in a world where you're more afraid of the living than the dead. Adrian Ring's simple life is thrown into chaos when the world is ripped apart by a plague of undead and legions of desperate survivors. Retreating to Auburn Lake Prep Academy, Adrian attempts to rescue friends and family on the way while dancing around his impending insanity over who and what he left behind, and evading maniac survivors. He saves his cat Otis, but shoots his mom. Pretty , all things considered. Of course, his sanity takes a hit as a result.

Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal", and through short stories that entwine with his tales that bring forth dark visions of a world being eaten alive by an unimaginable evil.

AUD is an eight part epic about a solitary, guilt stricken man that didn't think he deserved to live, but realizes very soon that he survived, and suffered for a reason.

This collection contains Dark Recollections, Alone No More, Midnight, and The Failed Coward, four full-length novels following the end of the world as witnessed by Adrian Ring.

Good, but terribly flawed

I enjoyed this audiobook, it was certainly told from a different angle then the usual motto. Basically the Narrator reads out the diary as what had happened in previous days or on that particular day,

But IT is HUGELY cliched, to a point where it was annoying me, Whenever they are out scavenging EVERYTHING typically goes perfect for the main protoganist Adrian,
Every house he scouts for food sounds like an overstocked supermarket full of everything he needs to survive, it is amazing how things just appear for his needs,
This guy is not surviving, he is literally living, as the story goes on he has Playstations, xbox's, all the DVD's you could want, if he wants to go out hunting its amazing how there is always deer literally outside his doorstep, he does not have to go far.

Also he is such a charsamatic person that he turns an entire camp against one of its leaders, he also manages to talk people down,
I also feel the Author doesn't want anything bad to happen to Adrians closest surviving friends, i never felt any tension or worried for the other people because they are just so good at killing Zombies and being at the right place at the right time.

Enough of the bad stuff, the good stuff i found was the humour, it has had me laughing a number of times, very funny in parts,
Also then there is the side stories about other survivors, they get another chapter or two to themselves and their fates, these side stories are very good.

Sadly i do not think i will carry on with this series as i find it annoying.
I think there are much better Zombie stories out there, I think the DEAD series by TW Brown is much better, Where people have to survive and nothing is perfect and the bad guys are BAD! It is full of shocks and horror with twists and turns, Also runs two-three stories side by side and TW brown is not afraid to write off main people either.

Quality

quality listen, slow to start but the slow start builds a real investment in the main character.

I loved how it switched view points and timelines.

I can't believe I got all these books of such high quality for 1 credit. I would of paid a lot more. This is a excellent listen.

Wonderful suprise

I came across this because of my love for Zombie Apocalypse books - and I’ve listened to a lot!!! What a fab 4 books - I love the fact that the underlying reason for the apocalypse is different from most of zombie books and it had wonderful characters that you truly invested in. The main character Adrian, really makes his way into your heart and I’m so looking forward to reading the rest of the series. And I cannot say enough for the brilliant narrator- a narrator can make or break an audible book and Chris made it!! He was on par with Scott Brick (Justin Cronin The Passage trilogy - my fave books and narrator ever) . Please read these books and meet Adrian and the gang.

Excellent

Just what I needed now that I’ve finished Mountain Man. Excellent story and performance. Different ways of telling the story but similar in so many ways (in a good sense).

great story and good value in respect to the length.

Sometimes it felt like the wrong voice for the type of main character, felt like the wrong fit so it was just someone reading a story.

Best credit I have ever spent

Please refer to the headline of this review. Just staggeringly well read and written take on the genre. A world that feels incredibly real. A main character that is flawed but you’re on his side. And finally I love the little glimpse we get of the origins story which is particularly unique and beautifully written.
