Summary

Mankind's greatest mystery lies in wait...Civil war rages in Ethiopia. A man waits to die in a parched prison cell; he hasn't seen daylight for four decades. But then a bomb hit hits the compound, and the prisoner and his secret are free. Two reporters, a beautiful photographer and a mercenary soldier save this wounded man, who tells them something too incredible to believe: the location of the Holy Grail. Thus begins an impossible quest that will pit them against murderous tribes, deadly assassins, fanatical monks, and ultimately, themselves.

The Quest is a breakneck search for an ancient legend amid a dangerous jungle war - and no one's coming out unscathed.

A long Quest

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would probably recommend this if I kew the friend was a patient person as the story line did tend to drag a little and in this instance an abridged version would probably be an advantage.
Unfortunately after a rather over long build up the conclusion was overly short.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nelson DeMille again?

It would depend on the type and length of the book as the storyline and presentation was generally good.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Scott Brick?

I thoght the narration of Scott Brick was very pleasant and would certainly look for him in future books

Could you see The Quest being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Could the film world take another Quest for the Holy Grail. Probably not

Any additional comments?

In summary I found "The Quest" a reasonable listen and it passed the time but I did start to drift a lot with the storyline.

DeMille just misses the target with this one

If you could sum up The Quest in three words, what would they be?

Graphic, violent, historical.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

There had to be an end to the quest of the title or readers would be yelling foul but it didn't satisfy me very much. The love interest didn't ring true to me the whole way through the book, either. DeMille's a man's writer (I'm a woman reader) and if male readers use this particular heroine in a bid to understand women in general, it won't help them a bit.

I can't say more without breaking the no-spoiler rule!

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The background research our heroes uncovered.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I stayed with it, but consumed it in chunks over several days. The violent actions of The Bad Guys were horrendous but cowboy hats in novels are either black or white, and the good guys must prevail.

Any additional comments?

If DeMille hadn't had me completely glued to my iPod after hearing his updated version of Mayday, I'd say it's a mistake to go back and rewrite earlier published work. But even blockbuster authors are entitled to the odd mis-step and I'll continue to read everything he produces in future.

Was that it...?

After 18 hours and 11 minutes the ending was MEH, I did like Frank and his always saying "Right." Vivian was a, well. She is what she is. Read at your own discretion. Not one of his best even after a re-write.
