Like a Le Carre love story
Wonderful book, about people who let each other down, and about people who put live above all else. What is treason? Who should we reserve our loyalty for? The book is riveting and it deals with big questions. Graham Green is masterful, as usual.

Fascinating book very well read
It’s always hard to know how much the reading performance makes a story seem better than it was. And the performance of this was first rate, with brilliant characterisations in the voices and accents conjured by Tim Piggot-Smith. However, the moral ambiguity of many of the characters, and the moral dilemmas, coupled with the moderate thriller aspects made this a compelling listen.

starts light and humorous ends dark and sad
enjoyed Piggott-Smith's reading except for his voice of Sarah. loved the section on Maltesers and overall enjoyed the novel

Superb Narration
Although the cultural references of this Graham Green novel are rather out of date, the narration and characterisation by Tim Piggot-Smith is absolutely superb - really a one man radio play and he brings the story line completely alive. Interesting that the theme of inevitable disaster for the human spirit in the secret world , makes Le Carre the natural heir to Greene. A very good listen.

Simply brilliant. A great story.
I loved this book. A riveting story brought to life by superb narration. Tim Piggott Smith is absolutely faultless. A tour de force! Highly recommended.

A tender, entertaining book.
Stunning performance of a tender book. TPS' performance is brilliant. I loved his voices as Danetre, 'C' and the doctor. The book is thoughtful and provoking. not Green's best. but diverting.
