Critic reviews

"As long as meticulous craftsmanship and honest entertainment are valued, and as long as action, authenticity, and expertise still make up the strong framework of the good adventure/thriller, Desmond Bagley's books will surely be read." (Reginald Hill, Twentieth Century Crime and Mystery Writers)
"Bagley is a master storyteller." ( Daily Mirror)
"Literate, exciting, knowledgeable adventure stories - Desmond Bagley is incomparable." ( Sunday Mirror)

Pronunciation!!

It would have helped if the narrator could pronounce quite a few of the words in this book, it was cringeworthy!!

Just superb!

This was such a clever pot. Initially I did not know how this was linked to book 1 in the series… but all became clear…
Not many books have the main character sent to prison for a real crime… but it is all in the question why? All very clever.
A great story, interesting characters and well narrated. Couldn’t ask for anymore!

Narrator should know unusual English words!

I actually like this guy's voice but honestly! He is semi-literate, and presumably the publisher can't be bothered to check that he has pronounced slightly unusual words correctly. About every five to ten minutes there is a mispronunciation, sometimes so weird that you have to listen again to work out what the word is. It really spoils enjoyments of a reasonably good story.

Great story, some strange pronunciations

One of Bagley’s best plots, great characters. Lots of twists and turns.

I was distracted by a few odd pronunciations and accents as another reviewer mentioned.

But not enough to take away from the book itself. Well worth a listen.
