Summary

When a group of armed police in an elite unit turn maverick and start to rip off drug dealers at gunpoint, undercover cop Dan "Spider" Shepherd is given his most dangerous mission so far. Shepherd is ordered to infiltrate the tight-knit team, to gain their confidence and, ultimately, to betray them. Facing men with guns is nothing new for the former SAS trooper, but it's the first time he's had to investigate his own. And the job couldn't have come at a worse time for him. As Shepherd finds himself in the firing line, he has to decide exactly where his loyalties lie.

Just great!

Again having listened to the first in this series I couldn't wait to listen to this book and was not disappointed. This is one book I could not put down, they are addictive "I need the next one asap".

Pity about the narrator !

Another great story from Stephen Leather and the character that is Spider sadly spoilt by the narrator and his ability to make all the characters sound the same.....he's no Paul Thornley one of the best narrators of audiobooks.

Another great Stephen Leather novel

I had read the first Dan Shepherd and really liked it plus it love this author. I had been looking for new book and saw this. The book had a couple of different plot lines which kept it interesting and there were some definite surprises at the end. Download this, you won't regret it.

Really enjoyable story with good narration

Fast paced story with a really engaging narrator. I hadn't heard of either the author or the narrator before book 1 of this series but I am a keen fan of both now. I listen to a lot of crime thrillers and they can get a bit obvious, but I particularly enjoy this series, the characters are interesting and the plot is great!

Leather has done it for me again

Any additional comments?

Once again, I am left feeling totally satisfied having listened to one of Leather's audiobooks. Stephen Leather is fast becoming one of my favourite writers; his panache for keeping the reader/listener captivated throughout the entire book is faultless and the "excitement factor" that he manages to inject into his novels are exemplary.

This time, Shepherd is sent undercover to investigate his own kind, and I fast learned that the only thing more dangerous than a criminal with a gun is a bent cop with a gun. This book had me on the edge of my seat more than once, and for that reason alone is worth a recommendation to other audible listeners.

Read this book: you won't regret it.

Gripping 2nd book...totally hooked now!

Spider Sheperd yet again walking the tightrope of undercover work, to get crime bosses and corrupt cops. All the while juggling the guilt of not being there for his son. His boss, The major and Liam are great characters which make me smile, curse and gasp.
All his books throw up some real crisis of conscience moments and the unfairness of life sometimes.

reader not right

I've always enjoyed this series but this book was hard going. The reader was not suitable for this story. His voices were not believable and the one for Dan Sheppard just made him sound like a wanna be gangster. I really did struggle to get to the end of this book. I'm sure he's a good reader but maybe for novels. The story line was good but it could of been much better. The reader should take you to a cinema in your head. Get you so engrossed, your there in the book. I'm sorry but this performance falls flat

Brilliant..

Excellent story, very cleverly all tied together at the end. Not so sure on the narration though, dodgy accents that border on the racist at times. Overall worth a listen though
