Summary

"All the problems I know about are family ones."

A frightened child approaches Roman informer Falco, pleading for help. Nobody believes Gaia's story that a relation wants to kill her--and neither does he. Beset by his own family troubles, by his new responsibilities as procurator of the sacred poultry, and by the continuing search for a new partner, Falco turns her away. Immediately he regrets it.

Gaia has been selected as the new Vestal Virgin, and when she disappears Falco is officially asked to investigate. Finding Gaia is then a race against time, ending in Falco's most terrifying exploit yet.

Another great story. Lots of side wanderings down different pathways weaving into the overall picture. A good listen.

Good story but spoilt by the narrator I prefer Rod

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Good story in the usual Falcons vein but spoilt by the narrator who does not have the character of Christian Rodska

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Gordon Griffin?

Rodska

Exciting adventure with a tense ending

Enjoyed being back in Rome with Falco, and his friends and family. I am used to Gordon Griffin as narrator now and can picture the Falco that his voice portrays. This story has all the usual elements and characters, peppered with dry humour and the disgusting details of Roman daily life. Maybe some of the events and chance meetings are a little bit too good to be true, but it doesn’t really detract from the enjoyment, and it does help to keep the narrative pacey. This adventure also has a particularly exciting ending.

Utterly thrilling and enjoyable

Absolutely love this book. We are delivered a thrilling story that sends you this way and that and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I did work out the mystery elements but still ended up on the edge of my metaphorical seat right to the end. If you are a fan, One virgin too many won’t let you down. If you are not a fan yet, go to an earlier book so you can get to know the characters and their backgrounds the easy Lindsey Davis intended. You won’t be disappointed that you did!

Excellent

This is another superb offering by the author. I am a fan of Falco and have read or heard virtually the whole series. I will not go into the plot, but it is well thought out and of her usual standard.
