Summary

It's Lex's first day back at work after maternity leave. She worries about the separation from her daughter as she leaves her with the nanny - but it's normal to worry, right? But Lex isn't a 'normal' mother. She's an elite-trained killer who works for a covert department within Her Majesty's Secret Service. She's just been given the assignment of her life, but can she juggle motherhood with the life of an assassin?

Cracking good read - and beautifully read as well

So refreshing to have a wry, courageous and clever female secret service agent. Will look forward to the next one! It read more realistically, with mistakes happening and causing further challenges, than the more slick James Bond style. Stylish and funny - a cracking, escapist read.

Wonderful first novel

I am an avid listener to anything spy, thriller etc and this was a wonderfully light and funny book that I have really enjoyed listening to. Her descriptions of motherhood, the yummy mummies and the old school men around her were delightful. It brought so many memories back - from those first tentative steps into motherhood and the delight and dread of going back to work leaving one's precious bundle to the fate of others. Really well read, a great idea and a well thought through plot - I loved the fact that all was explained at the end and one was not left hanging wondering what had happened to the characters she had dealt with. Keep going Asia - I am just about to listen to book 2. Can't wait to hear how Lex gets on.

Download it down, you won’t be disappointed!

I admit that I initially looked at this book because of the narrator. I’m a big fan of her narration on the Sweetpea books! It does take a while to realise it’s not Rhiannon who’s talking but once you do, you really do get lost in the story.

Lex is a wonderful protagonist who is believable and relatable (I mean I’ve never been in the secret service, but apart from that…!) and I warmed to her from the start. The storyline is brilliant, and I’ve just downloaded book number two. Book three will be preordered as well! I’m so glad I found this series, highly recommend!

Brilliant!

As soon as I realised it was the same narrator as the sweet pea books I knew I was going to love this, the best narrator there is.

A great book, really enjoyed it from start to finish. Funny, dark and gripping - will look for more from this author.

Conflicted

The theme was both novel and interesting and that made what was a rather ordinary story worth a listen but I didn't think the narrator fitted this book.

Fun it wasn't!

Completely implausible but I knew that before spending my credit. However, although I admit to liking the central character as a killer of bad people, I just could not reconcile myself to the doting mother. Found myself irritated and sometimes infuriated but did plod on - and it was plod. Don't think I will be listening to another in this series but might be a different story for you. Perhaps I like my thrillers to be darker - and that probably says more about me than the author!

Brilliant!

In the beginning I felt I would just enjoy it but wouldn’t read the next. I was wrong, it was so entertaining. Well drawn characters, many to care about. Some of the narration was a little comical but who am I to comment, I could never do it!

Excellent debut

Great all rounder, kept me interested and wanting more all the way through . The story developed well and the characters all fell into place easily.Having the wonderful Georgia Maguire narrating was a stroke of genius! I understand this is Asia Mackay’s first book and it’s well worth the listen. No doubt Asia’s success is well deserved and I wish her the best . I’m settling in to start number 2 now and already I can’t wait for the 3rd instalment!
