Summary

A classic thriller from the best-selling master of action and suspense.

The atomic submarine Dolphin has impossible orders: to sail beneath the ice floes of the Arctic Ocean to locate and rescue the men of weather station Zebra, gutted by fire and drifting with the ice pack somewhere north of the Arctic Circle.

But the orders do not say what the Dolphin will find if she succeeds - that the fire at Ice Station Zebra was sabotage and that one of the survivors is a killer....

Daring do!

This was a very old fashion feeling audiobook. Not as this is a bad thing. It felt like those Sunday afternoon films when the English guy is the plucky hero. The narration fits the lead character, but some of the other parts made me laugh! The ending was a little rushed. But all the scenes on the sub and ice station are very good.

A classic submarine yarn

This is a classic submarine yarn although it rather loses its way in the last act which is more murder mystery. Several differences from the film of the same name although Patrick MacGoohan' s portrayal is always in the back of one's mind.

Page Turner

I last read this as a teenager and I remember it as very exciting. I recently saw the film and thought I would read the book again. The book is streets ahead of the film with jeopardy around every corner. I highly recommend it.

vintage McLean

from the best years of McLean, convoluted and thoroughly researched with none of the romance he is so bad at

Excellent

Saw the film years ago but had never read the book. A must read and has stood the test of time,

My favourite book

I first read this book when I was about 12 and must have read it at least 50 times since. So much better than the awful film. I know most of it off my heart so it was lovely to have it read to me. I didn't take immediately to the voice of the reader but I got used to him after a while and he did a good job.

A wonderful vintage classic.

Amazingly gripping...

This was a very exciting story with excellent narration. The audio was much better than the film, as the story was stronger and more believable.

Ripping Yarn

very good book for the first three quarters but the end is a little lame a bit like a classic who done it with all the main suspects gathered together for the big reveal, but still a good listen
