Summary

Richard and Robin Mariner are amongst a select group of honoured guests at a reception in the Presidential Palace, in the recently refurbished capital of a powerful West Africa nation. They have been instrumental in helping the president take charge, which he is still fighting to drag into the 21st century. But events take a turn for the worse when the President’s daughter and her friend, who run a school and medical centre, find their compound overrun by a marauding terrorist militia led by a charismatic madman. Richard and Robin are inexorably sucked into the dark heart of the Delta, where the President’s grip is weakest, where lawlessness is fiercest, and where they soon come face to face with an uncontrollable evil.
