Summary

James Bishop returns in the second novel from Headline's very own Lee Child, must-buy thriller author Jason Dean. In a small, sleepy Pennsylvania town, the staff of a loan store find themselves at the mercy of a gunman who demands they hand over the store's entire cash reserves. But when the sound of police sirens shatters the silence sooner than expected, the robber is forced to take a young female customer hostage in order to make his escape.

Former Marine James Bishop is no stranger to being on the wrong side of the law. Finally a free man, with his name cleared, he has the chance to get his life back on track. But as he flees the scene of the hold-up with his terrified hostage, he once again finds himself a wanted man.... Prison can change some people. But has it changed James Bishop?

OK story

Story was ok, but I just couldn't get into the narration. Sorry Dudley but your American accent needs some development.

Very disappointed

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I've no idea!

Would you ever listen to anything by Jason Dean again?

His first book was brilliant! But his second book was as if written by someone completely different, someone out of touch, not streetwise somehow. I doubt I would listen to a Jason Dean novel again.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Dudley Hinton?

without a doubt Jeff Harding.

What character would you cut from Backtrack?

None. The language did not grab me, it was as if spoken by people with no knowledge of real life.

Any additional comments?

I am very disappointed!

Epic

Well read, great performance all round. As with this type of story, you know what the end result will be. But what a journey. Enjoyed very much

Brilliant read

Would you listen to Backtrack again? Why?

Yes, gripping good read lots of twists and back flips.Strong well balanced main character and the woman were well portrayed

What other book might you compare Backtrack to, and why?

Any of the established thriller writers

What does Dudley Hinton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He brings the tension and excitement that stops your mind drifting off .His character voices are believable especially the women. I was initially put off by previous reviews but am glad I persevered, because though Harding always makes for an excellent read his portrayal of women is terrible

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh yes

Any additional comments?

Glad I found another great author to add to my reading list

Action all the way!

This story kept me riveted from beginning to end and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who likes action packed books. Hope the next one won't be long in coming out. Gives Jack Reacher a run for his money.

Terrible

Truly awful. Hard to believe it was written by the same author as The Wrong Man, which was quite good. Don’t bother with this. Thin storyline. Badly written - full of cliches and trite language. The narrator was terrible. Why get an Englishman to mimic American accents? He was as bad as the book. I very nearly didn’t bother finishing it.

Should have stuck with Jeff Harding

Ok the story here is alright, entertaining enough. But the narrator?! He’s not a bad narrator, he’s just the wrong one for this kind of book. For one thing he speaks in a cultured, English accent which is just wrong for the story - I’m British so I know. Should have stuck with Jeff Harding.
