Summary
On a sweltering July morning in rural Tennessee, 50-year-old Rebecca Reynolds visits the family farm, where she literally stumbles across the mutilated bodies of her parents and younger sister, a sister who had spent life in a wheelchair after a birth fraught with complications.
Rebecca's first thought is to call 911. Her second is to find her estranged sister, Lena, who was disowned by the family years before. Her third is to wonder how long it will be before Lena is arrested for the murder of their family.
As the police gather evidence pointing to Lena, the sisters turn to attorney Brian Stone. Convinced of Lena's innocence, he agrees to take on the case. But in a family ripped apart by dysfunction, is anyone truly innocent?

Brilliant, gripping, gritty
A brilliant, gripping, gritty story. The brutal murder of a family, the estranged daughter with a criminal history accused, a poor but hard working sister design with the tragedy and a lawyer haunted but his past. The background and atmosphere of the Mississippi river area, the grinding poverty and family responsibility permeate this book. A great story with an ending I didn't see coming at all. I received a copy of the audio book and the narrator goes a fabulous job bringing the depth the story deserves. The best book I have listened too this year.
I received a complimentary copy from the narrator and am leaving a honest voluntary review.

A Woman Misunderstood.
This is a good story but I thought it a little slow in places and I found I was losing interest. The characters are well described and well developed. A very good twist at the end which I certainly did not expect, well worth bearing with. Michelle Babb does a good job as usual with the narration although I felt her usual flair for voicing the various characters was maybe a little lacking in this one, still love her as a narrator however. ****

Family drama... misunderstood
I quite liked this book. I found it engaging and I was excited to read it again. While I had guessed who 'dun-it' 2/3 into the book, it was still interesting to see how the story weaved together. I am a new listener to the author, but I definitely will check out her other books as well. I liked the fact that this book was a standalone, with reference to the previous book. So you didn't need to read book 1 to understand this book... and I prefer that in a book series! I liked the format of the book: Each chapter dedicated to each character from their POV- including court transcripts. The narrator spoke clearly and had different voices for each character, so you could tell who was speaking if you missed hearing the chapter title.
Yes, I do recommend this book.
I voluntarily gave my honest opinion in exchange for a free copy of the book. I will definitely read this one again.

Wonderful!
This was the book that featured in my most recent listen on Audible and you can consider me thoroughly entertained! The story gripped me throughout. The character building makes it impossible to not invest myself into what is happening, to feel for the characters involved and have my thoughts and emotions provoked. I was never quite sure what was coming next.
This books narration was fantastic too. Michelle did a wonderful job of bringing life to all the characters - both male and female, while providing an enjoyable soothing narration throughout.
I thoroughly enjoyed this and highly recommend it to anyone who may be interested!

blood isn't always thicker than water
I really enjoyed this book and the development of the relationship between the sisters, so similar yet so different, both struggling with anger at their past, one showing her anger outwardly in her actions, the other letting it simar just below the surface, hidden behind an outward projection of calm.
The characters within the novel are well developed, fleshed out people with their own voices distinct from each other.
I liked the way the chapters were told from key characters perspectives, I think it lent itself well to adding a sense of mystery and confusion to the unfolding events, as we were only being given as much information as the characters within the chapter.
The narrator was perfectly suited to the story, bringing each character to life in their own way and keeping the pacing of the story at just the right pace.
I look forward to finding more books in the series.
