About this listen

'One hundred percent delightful!' SARAH BETH DURST
'Warm, cozy, and eminently hopeful' OLIVIA ATWATER

What if love is the best magic of all?
A witch has a second chance to get her magical powers - and her life back on track in this feel-good, whimsical new cozy fantasy from the author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches.

Once, Sera Swan was one of the most powerful witches in Britain. Then she resurrected her great-aunt Jasmine from the (very recently) dead, lost most of her powers, befriended a semi-villainous talking fox, and was exiled from her Guild. Now she helps Jasmine run an enchanted inn in Lancashire, where she deals with their quirky guests' shenanigans and longs for a future that seems lost. Until she finds about an old spell that could restore her power . . .

Enter Luke Larsen, handsome magical historian, who might have the key to unlocking the spell's secrets. Luke has no interest in the inn's madcap goings-on, and is even less interested in letting a certain bewitching innkeeper past his walls. So no one is more surprised than he is when he agrees to help.

Running an inn, reclaiming lost power, and staying one step ahead of the watchful Guild is a lot for anyone, but Sera is about to discover she doesn't have to do alone - and that love might be the best magic of all.©2024 Sangu Mandanna

Magical in every sense, not just the spell-casting kind! Sangu Mandanna uses her signature whimsical writing to tell a story filled with love, heart, and hope, where every character is unapologetically themselves and good always triumphs. Without shying away from the tougher realities of life, Mandanna somehow captures the essence of everyday magic-the magic we find in the love of our friends and family
Found family, a talking fox, a quaint inn in an English village - it's like this book was written just for me. Mandanna somehow writes existential crises like a warm hug

All jokes aside it was wonderful. The Scottish accent yes, but the other aspects of this beautiful story as well. I love Sangu’s writing style, the beautiful and well rounded characters, and the lovely representation. If you loved the author’s previous book ( The very secret sover of irregular witches) then you’ll definitely like this book too!

You know how I feel about a Scottish man!!!!

The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the one bedroom scene (I prefer the old Hollywood fade to black)

Overall it was an enjoyable romp.
Witchcraft, personal relationships (family, friendship, and romance) a bit of peril and betrayal. I’d love to meet these people again to see how they all cope with the challenges and changes at the end of the book.

Enjoyable romp

I really love this story. Though the romance is quite shallow. I would have gladly read a longer book, if the extra had been focus on building the relationship between the two characters. I love the quirky, funny writing style, and the romantic encounters that are there are really lovely. I'd just love more romance! The rest of the story is beautiful and bittersweet and I know I will reread many times.

Cute story, light on romance
