Summary

Delving deep into the darkest corners of horror movies this series explores the highs and lows of the blood and gore genre following, in particular, the changing fortunes of Universal Horror. From Dracula and Frankenstein to The Black Cat, a movie that even Universal executives deemed "too vile for public consumption", and beyond to the influences of science fiction and the new breed of horror films.

Boom!

I have only just discovered Adam Roche and his titles (I have them all) I am completely captivated by his delivery and the quality and passion, which is evident by the quality of his narration. He comes across as devoted to his subject and the content detail to all the stories is fantastic. More titles please, I could listen to you all day long.

I would happily have paid for this !

Wonderful. So many audio clips from amazing Universal Horror films from the 1930s and 40s when Karloff and Co ruled the crypt. comprehensive coverage of both famous and more obscure films too. Terrific Homage to Horror - please keep this series in the library

Interesting, informative, well written

This podcast has listeners hooked from the start - with the stirring account of Carl Laemmle Sr. plunging into his version of the American dream - and leads them through a gallery of old Hollywood's best monsters. My only gripe with it is that, to my ears, the narrator spoke with an unusual intonation, as if he were constantly trying to hint at some witty unspoken double entendre. It gets weary after a while, but this is by no means a bad performance.

Bloody great

The series as a whole is both entertaining and informative. Definitely well worth the download. A well presented and informative look behind the curtain.

Superb

Adam Roche is that very rare example of a writer and narrator who can combine accuracy, insight, humour, and most of all humanity, all together in his storytelling. This is the second series I have listened by him and both of them turned out to be pure gold. It is a marvellous and touching journey through the golden years of Universal's horror cinema.
