Summary

Constance Harding's comfortable corner of the Home Counties is her own little piece of heaven. Her time is spent party-planning (disastrous) and matchmaking for her son Rupert (catastrophic). But she's about to learn that her perfect home conceals scandal that would make the vicar blush. As her family falls apart, Constance embarks on an extraordinary journey. A year in the life of a Surrey matron!

Fifty-something Constance lives a somewhat smug and complacent life in stockbroker-belt Surrey with husband Geoffrey. The one fly in her ointment is her somewhat unsatisfactory family. Rupert, good-looking and doing well as an IT specialist, shows no sign of settling down with a suitable girl and providing the grandchildren that Constance craves and Sophie, adolescent and wayward, is not the pretty, biddable daughter she expected to have. We follow a year in her life through the blogs she writes in her "new" computer", a year which brings many surprises and unforeseen changes to this ideal situation. Jilly Bond reads the story beautifully, and the humour and tongue-in-cheek description of the ups and downs that Constance has to deal with will have you smiling, and occasionally laughing aloud.
