About this listen

Marius Valstar doesn’t know which is worse: the dead body in his greenhouse or the naked fae prince on his desk.

The only rakes of interest to Marius are garden tools, not fae princes. Certainly not the arrogant, selfish fae prince he has the misfortune to have a history with.

But when Prince Rakken turns up naked and bleeding in Marius’s college the same day a body appears in his greenhouse, scruples must take second place to solving a murder that could unravel the delicate balance between humans and fae.

Marius’s own developing magical powers are more hindrance than help, as is Rakken’s bloodied past. Forced to work together, they must forge an uneasy alliance if they are to track down the killer. But how can Marius trust the man who represents everything he’s trying to avoid?

A Rake of His Own is a steamy m/m gaslamp fantasy featuring a melodramatic fae prince, a beleaguered botanist, and a second-chance enemies-to-lovers romance. It occurs chronologically after the events of The Stariel Quartet, but can be listened to as a standalone.

I did enjoy the book but didn’t see the need for such detailed sex scenes as this wasn’t the case in the other books and not the genre I thought I was reading! I also felt a bit cheated out of Hetta’s story of having the twins and her and Wynn as new parents but maybe this will be in the next book? Overall another good Stariel story.

Good to hear Marius and Rake’s story

I really hope that there is another book in the series. The sort of book that you don’t want to end

Loved the book

I particularly enjoyed the Stariel quartet, and this was a fitting wind up - although I do hope there will be more! The characters are well-rounded, and once again the author has created a world that is just far enough away from ours to be different, yet believable. The narration of Rake and Marius is superb.

Fabulous story and narration

I enjoyed this book immensely, the story was great, performance top notch and I’m a sucker for a happy ending! I’m so glad the author continued the relationship between rake and Marius. Fair warning though, this book gets steamy! But it only adds to the plot rather than just being included for the sake of it.
I’m really glad the author chose to focus on another character as well as the woman who narrated book 4 of the series did a terrible job. Really recommend this one though! X

Excellent

I have read and listened to the other 4 books in this world. I loved them all! I am glad to say, this book does not disappoint.
Beautifully written believable adult romance with a suspense plot thrown in. The narrator does the story justice. Well defined characters. There is nothing to dislike - unless you don't like fantasy, gaslamp romance. Definitely, up for listening again and again ...
