About this listen

Delve into the world of fourteenth-century England, in this thrilling historical mystery. It may be enjoyed as complete in itself or as part of the Hugh de Singleton medieval mystery series.

When Hugh and Kate’s newborn son is taken to the church to be baptized, they are astounded to find that the locked font is completely dry. The possibility of a leak is quickly ruled out, and just as Hugh is beginning to wonder if there may be a sinister explanation for the stolen holy water, Father Robert is found lying motionless by the rood screen in a pool of blood.

Meanwhile, parliament has passed a poll tax, stipulating that everyone above the age of fourteen is to be taxed equally. Folk are soon scrambling to find the money to pay, and, inevitably, unscrupulous elements in society see an opportunity to feed off people’s desperation and make some cash. But what connection can there possibly be between this and events at Bampton?

Yet again another brilliant tale. Shame it was quite short. Like Christmas had come round again to have another instalment…looking forward to May for the next one.

Good old goings on at Galen house

Great story and a good addition to the series. Was very cross at being given an opening for the next mystery in the closing pages. Typical serial tactics I felt manipulated.

Much too short!

As usual Sir Hugh is dogged in his attempt at getting to the bottom of the mystery.
interesting snippets of history on the way. Always a good bedtime read.

A good medieval mystery

As with other reviews, I too found this book to be a bit tedious and lacking any dynamic plot… I just couldn’t get that bothered about ‘holy’ font water…….I kept thinking something earth shattering might happen….but it didn’t. Listened to it all, but only out of some kind of irrational loyalty to the other books

Not Very Exciting Holy Font Water
