Summary

Late October 1909, and the season of ghouls and things that go bump in the night has descended on the village of Littleton Cotterell.

Lady Hardcastle and her trusted lady’s maid, Florence, find themselves hosting a colorful cast of actors whose spooky moving picture, The Witch’s Downfall, is being shown to mark Halloween. But things take a macabre turn when the first night’s screening ends with a mysterious murder, and the second night with another.... One by one the actors turn up dead in ways that eerily echo their film.

With the police left scratching their heads, Lady Hardcastle calls upon her amateur sleuthing skills to launch an investigation, with Flo’s able assistance. Surrounded by suspects both human and supernatural, Lady Hardcastle must use a little trickery of her own to unmask the murderer.

A Picture of Murder

This is another crazy mystery brought down on Lady Hardcastel and Flow, after a lot of what seems to be mindless murders they are able to work out what is going on. Really funny and entertaining, read brilliantly again by Elizabeth Knowelden.

Excellent as always

Brilliant story, beautifully read by Elizabeth Knowelden. Great storyline, very clever. The clues came together gradually and with the usual wit and banter from Lady Hardcastle and Florence Armstrong, her trusty ladies maid. The dynamic duo never fail to entertain whilst also getting the job done. Fabulous.

What an excellent listen……

The fourth story in the Lady Hardcastle Mysteries….this one certainly had you guessing, with no apparent motive, it made go round in circles, BUT one chapter about the death of Lady Hardcastle’s husband was riveting, well written and read and quite edge of the seat stuff….yep, I’d thoroughly recommend this audible book…..

Amazing banter as always!

Listening to Lady H and 'Strong-arm' through headphones leads to many an embarrassing moment - when I spontaneously let out an explosion of laughter! My absolute favourite heroines. Stars, both main characters.

Wonderful characters!

Whilst overall these stories might be described as ‘whimsical murder mysteries’, two areas stand out.

Firstly, the wonderful characters, who are extremely likeable and whose back stories develop as the series progresses.

And secondly, the quality of both the writing and the plot. As a huge Agatha Christie fan my whole life, I rejoice in having found such a quality book series to keep my passion for murder mysteries (and great writing) satisfied.

Highly recommend.

Enjoyable story, superb narration

Elizabeth Knowelden does an excellent job narrating the Lady Hardcastle's series. These are cosy, witty, light hearted murder mysteries set in rural England. A most pleasant way to pass the time.
