Summary

Digging up the past can be deadly.

After years of running from her ex - a vicious Mexican drug lord - and his subsequent death, Kate Jones is ready to bury the past and try to piece together a new normal. But first there's a loose end to tie and it involves digging up old ghosts that are best left alone.

Unaware her actions have attracted the notice of a powerful enemy Kate is plunged into a deadly fight for survival, as both her life and the lives of the children of a man she once loved hang in the balance. And, with the possibility of an informant inside the DEA, she doesn't know who she can trust.

From the emerald green shores of Seattle to the lush Yucatan jungle and unforgiving Sonoran desert, Kate Jones must once again face her past... and hope she survives.

annihi-late

Sometimes you can only push a girl so far before she will turn and fight back and then you had better watch out because no one is safe.

When the love of her life's daughters are kidnapped and the men holding them will only deal with Kate, she has no choice but to head back to Mexico and deal with her past. The only problem is the father doesn't remember the year they spent together (after suffering a head wound because of Kate but that is a whole other story) and the new man in her life adds to the complications. Why doesn't anyone understand that she just want's a quiet normal life but when its a drug lord boss that wants what you have, it leads to anything but a quite life. Plenty of action, old friends and new ones its sure to lead to a annihilation.l

Once again a brilliant story and great narrator and I just love this series

"A first-rate psychological thriller with finely wrought characters, a tantalizing puzzle and just a touch of romance, all delivered with the sights, sounds and marvels that delight the senses and captive the mind..

Kate Jones is captivating.. A Strong Smart women that just can't seem to get away from the past and the men that want her dead.. With wit and humorous sarcasm in the face of death D. V. BERKOM has created a realistic no nonsense woman that we all want to be..

Life and death tale with hostages - fast paced

What did you love best about A One Way Ticket to Dead?

I loved the unexpected turns and Kate's quirky way of looking at and describing things. I like it's all written in her voice, and I like that it is always on the move. Very engaging.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A One Way Ticket to Dead?

Again, I don't want to spoil things, but Kate's reunion(s) with Sam satisfied the romantic in me. There are a bunch of other fun scenes, skydiving and battles.

What does Melissa Moran bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice is well suited to Kate's character. I think Kate would sound like her. Does the narrator change the story? That's a hard question. It's always difficult to compare reading to listening. She did a great job, if she did more it probably would have been distracting.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This is a fun, sometimes funny, tense, fast-paced thriller. I think it's not meant to be moving. But it is a great escape, a fun world to inhabit for 5-plus hours. That feat can move me to tears if I'm doing laundry.

Any additional comments?

Great descriptions, Kate has a strong character and she always stays in character.
