Entertaining.

An entertaining book with an original storyline, well-developed characters, and adorable pets. Amelia Mendez narrates the book beautifully.

A review copy of the book was sent to me by FreeAudiobookCodes. All of the above opinions are my own.

Great cozy mystery

Peggy has moved home to Stinky Springs. The town has not changed much, but a big city developer coming to town with big plans has upset the locals. When his wife ends up dead there are no shortage of suspects. Incuding her friends and her man crush. THis story has humour. friends and mystery.
I enjoyed this story and look forward to more in this series.

Grudges can be deadly

I enjoyed this book. It has a little bit of everything murder, a stalker, romance, health scare, friendship and even a big cat. All of it works together to make an interesting story. This might be a cosy mystery but it seems a lot more grown up than others out there. The mystery was interesting and I enjoyed the way the group of friends got together to solve it and especially get information from the police. Look forward to the next book.
Peggy as a writer doesn't get much exercise so when her early morning swim is interrupted by the discovery of a dead body, She has no choice but ask questions. Especially as it seems the police are taking a closer look at some of her friends, including her high school crush. The woman made more enemies than friends but the pie in the face makes it seem very personal. Can Peggy work out who the killer is? Or is she just making herself a target? She already has threatening emails and a stalker from her writing career, is playing detective just as deadly? When another body is found it seems worry about a bit fat roaming the woods is the least of her worries.
I liked the narrator. She used different voices for each of the characters making it easy to listen and enjoy.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntary left this review.

A perfect cosy mystery

Peggy Rector didn't expect to be solving any murders when she returned to her hometown of Stinky Springs in Texas. Then again, she didn't ever imagine she'd be on the suspect list either.
In between writing her novel and trying to catch a stalker, and attempting to avoid being eaten by a mountain lion, she has enough on her plate. But when you add in her quirky neighbours, a possible romance and her beloved pets, Peggy's life just got more complicated.
This is a fabulous cosy mystery, full of great characters, community disputes, ex-wives who don't want to remain ex-wives and lots of small town shenanigans.
I will definitely be back for more. That said, I listened to the audiobook version, which I had to slow down to 75% as the dialect was way too strong and fast for my ear (non- American), so I'll be reading the next books in the series.

Thoroughly enjoyable mystery

This is a very enjoyable listen. I have had the misfortune to listen to a couple of rather disappointing books, but this one has restored my faith in audiobooks.
At its heart this is a cosy mystery, but it is a more involved and complex story than most in that genre.
I loved the characters, Peggy is the sort of person you would love as a friend, and the other characters are all very individual and believable.
The narration was first class, it was clear and easy to listen to. I think that not using different voices for each character actually made it easier to listen to, I found that I was concentrating on the story, and not on the narrator, which is really as it should be.
This is a happy confluence of a very good plot with great characters and excellent narration. More please.
