About this listen

An ordinary village

A shocking announcement

One morning the villagers of Chipping Cleghorn wake to find a strange notice in their papers:

‘A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, October 29th, at Little Paddocks at 6.30pm.’

Suspecting this is just a joke, they gather for some evening entertainment.

Then a gunshot is heard.

In desperation, the police turn to an old lady whose hobbies are gardening, gossiping – and solving murders.

After all, old ladies know better than anyone exactly what goes on in quiet English villages…

Never underestimate Miss Marple

‘The queen of jaw-dropping, heart-stopping twists.’
Karen M. McManus

‘Establishes firmly her claim to the throne of detection. The plot is as ingenious as ever… the dialogue both wise and witty; while the suspense is maintained very skilfully until the final revelation.’
A.A. Milne

I found it a little harder than Mrs Christie’s other books to get into but is definitely worth the read. Superbly written with loads of great characters though there is one I came closing to murdering, I’ll leave you to suss out who it is.
Beautifully read by Emilia Fox showing her acting skills too with voices. Thoroughly recommend this recording.

Another Fantastic Read

Really good reenactment of one of my favourite Miss Marple stories. I always enjoyed the Joan Sims TV adaptation and this is just as good.

all that is charming, curious and social is here- with some sugar spun cruel humanity thrown in

A small perfection

Now, some of this hasn't aged well but that's by-the-by.

However, if you're into Christie, this is just a delicious perfect-for-Halloween read.

Only neg really is that Mitsy's voice is soooo shrill that I had to turn it down for those bits haha.

This one is goooood

This is a well rounded story. The plot made perfect sense. There were a few anomalies: would violets and chrysanthenums be in bloom at the same time?when did the revolver go missing? Emilia Fox was an excellent narrator: she voiced each of the many characters distinctly and appropriately; maybe Letty should have sounded older. Thoroughly enjoyable listen.

One of her best.
