About this listen

What if Jane Bennet had been born with a chromosome abnormality like Down Syndrome? Find out in this variation of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice.

In Regency England, Elizabeth Bennet faces a year of formidable challenges. Her beloved sister Jane, born with a disability, finds herself in the midst of societal pressures that test Elizabeth’s protective instincts. As the Bennet family navigates these hardships, Elizabeth must confront those who would exploit her sister’s condition.

Meanwhile, Fitzwilliam Darcy, burdened with his own family secrets, grapples with his father’s mysterious past and concerns for his sister’s future. His path crosses with the Bennets as he and Elizabeth confront their prejudices and misunderstandings under trying circumstances.

As Elizabeth fiercely defends Jane’s dignity against the encroachments of the Bingley family, Darcy contemplates a revelation that could change everything. In a society where status and decorum often dictate actions, will the truths about the Darcy and Bennet families unite them or drive them apart?

A Most Beloved Sister is a compelling tale of loyalty, truth, and the powerful bonds of family in the face of adversity.

Trigger warning: mistreatment of persons born with disabilities.

A Most Beloved Sister is a full-length, sweet regency romance novel that is a variation of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice.

As you might know Mrs. Thomas wrote “A Most Beloved Sister” with a Jane Bennet with a chromosome disability in honour of her 3 adopted sisters with a chromosome dilation.
I liked the book and I also liked the audio version with Harry Frost as competent narrator, but the specialty were the 3 sisters narrating Jane’s parts. This is such a courageous act of all the participants, but especially of the 3 young ladies 👏👏👏 Who of us would dare to do this???
I simply cannot but admire them and perhaps other authors will also dare similar things?

Such courageous ladies!

This story at times was uncomfortable to listen to. I would say persevere with it for from what appears & is unkindness at times and made me feel both sadness and anger at the beginning and made me wonder if I should continue, I so do not like unkindess in any form. (I took note of authors notes at the beginning) and kept on listening. I'm so very glad I did for there was so much beauty to be found in it. The beauty of pure innocence and unconditional love.
Harry Frost was AMAZING! The narrator for Jane I found very American in accent. Having known many children with the conditions referred to in this book I have never heard one with an accent like it...(again I paid attention to narrators notes and thought whoever they chose needed to be able to read/remember and express feelings, so once I attuned my ears from then on the book flowed.
A story of love. challenges, overcoming and truth
A truly interesting one that will bring tears to your eyes yet touch your heart with it's beauty.
I will definitely listen to this again. There is so much of this book that makes you crinch (but sadly it was the truth of that era) yet so much compassion and deep deep love.
D&E get their HEA after their personal battles of P&P! and so do others.
I Recommend ( if you can take on board all the authors notes as it is written with a true yet very feeling & understanding outlook of any people born with special needs and the way they were treated in that era... shocking! 💔).,
Be aware it's not easy to listen to or read at all at times BUT listen and look for the beauty that reaches inside your heart and you will find it. ❤️

The sensitivity of the story while the reality of the day. 💔❤️
