Story
Detective Miles Jensen is called to the lawless town of Santa Mondega to investigate a spate of murders. This would all be quite ordinary in those rough streets, except that Jensen is the Chief Detective of Supernatural Investigations. The breakneck plot centres around a mysterious blue stone, 'The Eye of the Moon', and the men (and women) who all want to get their hands on it: a mass murderer with a drink problem, a hit man who thinks he's Elvis and a pair of monks among them.

I was dead for 13 minutes. I don't remember how I ended up in the icy water, but I do know this - it wasn't an accident, and I wasn't suicidal. They say you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but when you're a teenage girl, it's hard to tell them apart. My friends love me, I'm sure of it. But that doesn't mean they didn't try to kill me. Does it? 13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough is a gripping psychological thriller about people, fears, manipulation and the power of the truth.

The day my path crossed with Simon Fox I thought I’d already lost everything, but then he almost ran me off the road with his flash car and belittling jibes. The men in my life had undermined me for too long. Enough was enough. Fuelled by alcohol and the desire to get even, I decided a spot of petty vandalism would make me feel a whole lot better. Wrong. Very wrong. I hadn’t realised that Simon Fox was not a man to be messed with.

Summary
The recession has left the world exhausted. Crime is rising; financial institutions across the world have collapsed, and most governments are now in debt to The Bank, a company created by the world's wealthiest men.
But Detective Inspector Cass Jones has enough on his plate without worrying about the world at large. His marriage is crumbling, he's haunted by the deeds of his past, and he's got the high-profile shooting of two schoolboys to solve - not to mention tracking down a serial killer who calls himself the Man of Flies.
Then Cass Jones' personal world is thrown into disarray when his brother shoots his own wife and child before committing suicide - leaving Cass implicated in their deaths. And when he starts seeing silent visions of his dead brother, it's time for the suspended DI to go on the hunt himself - only to discover that all three cases are linked...
As Jones is forced to examine his own family history, three questions keep reappearing: what disturbed his brother so badly in his final few weeks? Who are the shadowy people behind The Bank? And, most importantly, what do they want with DI Cass Jones?

Written well
This author can write but this novel left me somewhat disappointed. Scary scenario, most unsettling and hopefully not a glimpse of our future. The real world is scary enough as it stands but this novel takes us further into the nightmare that might befall us. We are ruled and governed by the wealthy, privileged, power-hungry oligarchs from every corner of our universe and they see nothing wrong in their behaviour or the outcome of their dirty dealings. Perhaps that is what scares me the most and probably why I found this novel so disturbing. Too close to the truth! Not going to keep for reading again but that is not the fault of the author ...... just a wee bit too scary because - like her - we are already seeing the signs!!!

Great sci-fi/horror twists on a traditional copper thriller.
Love the genre bending in this well written novel. This was the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed her nuanced and delicate handling of the emotional aspects of each character as well as her ability to deftly carve large swaths of gruesome horror and anticipatory curiosity.
I must say however, this audiobook, I think was especially enjoyable due to the work of it's narrator, Tristan Gemmill. I listen to a good deal of audio books, including full cast narration, and I don't think I have ever heard a performance that has been as good as this. He read each character with such depth and emotion and the accents and voices we all so very different. It really was a PERFORMANCE.
Truly outstanding !
I'm looking forward to book 2.

Murder mystery with a touch of the supernatural
Absolutely brilliant writing and characterizations make this a mesmerizing read! I'm not big on supernatural horror stories, but the touch of supernatural was so light in this story as to be convincing and believable. You can't help feeling for Cass and the Greek tragedy that befalls his entire family in spite of his considerable personal failings. The narrator was terrific too! Can't wait to read the second book!

Not her best work but still entertaining
I usually LOVE Pinborough books but this one was hard for me to get into or follow. I still don't understand the glow or the killer. Maybe its because I listened on Audible instead of reading the book. Still kept me entertained but it felt a bit choppy and scattered.
