Story
Felix and Lane are struggling with just how boring a "normal" life is, so when they get a chance to jump into action, they do so without a second thought - especially since they're offered a lot of money. The request is simple: find a way to retrieve a watch from police custody. But things are never as easy as they seem. Suddenly, they're caught in the middle of a family feud that could turn deadly. But no matter what, through kidnappings, car chases, and cooking mishaps, Felix knows that as long as Lane is by his side, they will find a way to set things right.

Story
Growing up, I was taught that getting too close to someone would be my downfall. But I’ve proven that wrong now that I’m happily married to Jackson, the greatest man in the world. The issue is that mayhem always seems to find me (which is definitely not my fault), and this time, it comes in the form of a woman looking for her daughter.

Story
Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

Story
When I gave up life as a hitman, I thought everything was going to be better. I was going to become a PI, help people, and live normally…and then I met Jeremy, the most perfect man to have ever saved my life (I mean, he might be the only one who has saved my life, but he’s still the best at it). From that point on, it was all over for me - I knew we were meant to be. The issue is that he doesn’t…quite seem to realize that. But when he’s targeted by criminals (literally, someone just shot at his head), he needs to rely on someone, so why not me?

Story
Getting into the vampire-only detective unit was the easy part. What’s going to be more difficult is dealing with my new partner - an ancient vampire who keeps threatening to eat me. The unit has never had a human in it. Marcus - or, as I like to call him: Fangy McFangface - would really prefer to keep it that way. He’s grumpy, short-tempered, and broody, but I have a way with words, and I know he’s starting to like me, even if he swears he’s not.

But neither Chevy nor Seneca are prepared when they are asked to go into the mind of a serial killer in hopes of finding survivors.

“You are the savior of mankind” are the last words I ever expected to hear while nibbling on fries. The thing is, I’m not mankind saving material. I don’t even have magic (and just found out it exists). I’m the most boring, normal(ish) human ever. Suddenly, I’m being tossed right into the middle of a fight that started years before I was even born, and then I get partnered up with Alastair, a quirky magical Guardian. He is rather attractive and sweet when he’s not into the whole “woe is me, I can’t let myself fall in love with you” nonsense.

My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Smart men never dabble with demons. I never claimed to be smart, but at least, I’m powerful enough to control them. When I bound Havoc to me nearly 300 years ago, I never realized how difficult he’d make my life, although “accidentally” lighting him on fire every now and then does bring a smile to my face. Havoc is handsome, mysterious, and somehow, my closest companion, even if we don’t always get along.

Summary
Felix and Lane are trying out their new normal. Normal means no more car chases, no more drug lords, and definitely no more kidnapping bad guys. All of that is a thing of the past in this new, normal(ish) life style filled with family get-togethers, torturous jogs through the park, and the occasional romp in the parking lot. Felix is done stealing (all but for the cat). He is actually enjoying the boring side of life, especially with Lane by his side doing what he does best: looking handsome. But when Felix's brother wants to repair their relationship, he brings with him a secret that could cost all of them their lives.
Lane isn't complaining because the thrills of life-threatening situations are right up his alley. They may think they have a handle on the situation, but what they do not know is that someone has been working them from the shadows. Forcing them to do exactly what he wants as he drives them closer to his sick game of life and death.
Join Felix and Lane in a race against time, their only weapons being their humor and their wit.

As good as the first book
As with the first book, this is a hidden gem. Exciting action, good relationship and I found myself laughing out loud many many times. There’s a psychological thriller element to this book too, but despite the fact that I’m not a fan of being scared, I loved it and found it exciting. This is so much better than the usual boring trope out there, and it’s refreshing to have a proper plot that hooks me so much that I listen to it all on my headphones in one day. Hope there’s more from this author on Audible soon because the two books from this series have been fantastic.

Another triumph from Alice Winters. Felix and Lane are as snarky and sassy as ever and this acts as a perfect counterpoint to the Darkness of the story. Wonderfully narrated by the amazing Joel Leslie, he's one of my favourite narrators because if his versatility and range. Loved every second.

Brilliant sequel!
I had so much fun listening to this 😀 The story is original and interesting, the dialogue witty and the feelings between Felix and Lane are perfect - love, snark sprinkled with humour.
The icing on the cake is Joel Leslie's performance! He is the perfect choice for Felix and Lane (and the others). He does a great job with the sly humour, funny lines and the suspense.
I absolutely loved the story and narration, the only spot on an otherwise perfect book, is the overuse of 'he says', 'I say'. (Not enough to detract from my enjoyment).

Great second book
I absolutely adore Lane and Felix!
This second book is best enjoyed after reading the first but not essential it can be read as a stand alone, however I feel to really appreciate the relationship between Lane and Felix you would benefit by reading the books in order.
The snarky, sarcastic humour between the two MC’s is just my cup of tea and had me belly laughing.
Having a disability myself I know how important it is to be able retain a sense of humour without offending anyone and I feel the author Alice Winters, achieved this perfectly.
As for Joel Leslie, his narration was sublime! He was Lane and Felix, his comedic timing and performance was just what was needed for these two characters and I couldn’t imagine anyone else narrating this series of books.

This series only gets more hilariously amazing!
First of all....how to opine about Joel Leslie? He is an amazing narrator and the banter back and forth that is essential in this series is right up his alley. The first book is very action packed and the plot is convoluted due to deep undercover and police corruption issues. The second book is much more domesticated, same page, and too curious for their own good sort of tale. I loved the sarcasm, continued expansion of family members closeness and even possible future spawn (gasp!) the story meanders wonderfully and then gets Super Dramatic for the last few hours. Be prepared to want to yell at the characters as they awkwardly go out to investigate alone the equivalent of “what’s that noise?” in a horror movie and confront obvious villains.

I found the amazing Alice Winters by accident in the "Hitman's" series. Her books are exciting, fun, have great pacing and are funny as Hell. Add the Audible portion, with Joel Leslie as the voice of Lane and Felix, I became completely enamored. Laugh out loud hilarious and so entertaining. I wish this series was in theaters. Funny! Mystery, suspense, romance
I liked the first book. I LOVED this sequel! I looked like a loon as I laughed out loud many times while listening. Seriously- the banter between Lane and Felix gets downright hilarious, as do the situations they find themselves in. I’ve never laughed so hard as when poor Felix gets his hand stabbed by a fork and he and Lane banter back and forth during an extremely high stress time. Or how about when Felix tries to make one of those prepackaged dinners? Totally worth the funny looks I got while wearing my headphones and laughing out loud. There are deeply felt moments of souls baring truth as well, but very little angst. Great job to Alice and Joel for being a fantastic duo (again!) The joking between Lane and Felix is funny and well timed, but doesn’t go to the ridiculous like with the ‘Hitman’ series and Leland’s over the top crazy talk.

Ms. Winters does it again!
Book 2 - A Light in the Dark was finger licking good (book reference get your mind out of the gutter). Her sarcasm, humor and love is unmatched in this extreme Mandela of colors and textures. She sets up an elaborate arachnid web that draws you in like a fly and keeps you entranced. While performing this written triathlon and taking the gold. AGAIN!!! Two for two, 5⭐'s
P.S. I'd let Joel Leslie read the stock market gibberish in another language. Just to hear his voice. He has ruined me for other narrators. He's the marshmallow of my s'mores (once again get your mind out of the gutter). He brings the story to life and makes everything mesh perfectly.

Good story. Good narration.
This book was slightly more disturbing than the previous one in the series. It's still a comedy, but it has a darker tone. The story also delves into the concepts of right and wrong, good and bad, and the perception of both by different individuals.
This was an entertaining read/listen, but be prepared to question the concept of morality.

However, I hated how they were in distress in this part due to the family compromised relationships but; in the end they grown up to be better. I love so much Felix, he is so eager to be loved that hurts my heart. Going to continuing the series, I know that I'm going to miss them a lot.😍😍
