Summary

Some secrets should never be revealed....

As far as Lady Helena Carter is concerned, it isn’t bad to be a wallflower and a bluestocking. She wants nothing more than to be independent. Her father hasn’t made her life easy, and all her mother wants is her to find a husband - any man will do. In order to achieve her goal, she comes up with a foolproof plan to achieve her greatest wish. There is only one problem, and a man is at the heart of it.

Some secrets can’t be kept....

Lord Oliver Hunt, the Marquess of Dashville, has been plagued with rumors and innuendo for five years, and it’s all that dratted Lady X’s fault. He made one wrong move in his wayward youth, and he’s been paying for it ever since. Determined to make the Lady of Whispers see him differently, he devises a scheme to make amends to the first lady that Dash slighted. He seeks out Lady Helena for that purpose, but she won’t have anything to do with him.

Unraveling a secret can be sweet....

As they continue to cross paths, desire sparks between them. Their budding romance is tested as secrets are uncovered, and the revelations will either bring them closer together or tear them apart forever.

Loved it

I loved this enemies to lovers story. There was that edge of brother's best friend. The secrets that she held are enough to tear them apart, but that doesn't seem to stop him when he finds out. I loved the banter between the characters. It was a very well put together story.

that's the secret?

If you had read some regency stories, you might have encountered the gossip queen. Aside from the gossip queen, this story is about Lady Helena and Lord Oliver. Lady Helena wants to be independent and had decided to become a spinster. Lord Oliver, plagued with gossips finally had come to change his ways and tried to make amends.

This was an enticing enemies to lovers romance. There was a revelation, surprised he surmise it. I salute our heroine's plan to be independent and optimism of her future despite the initial reality of being a spinster. Love heroines that take charge of things than procrastinate or whatever the wind blows I will face it personality. (NOTE: I thought the secret and revelation was good!!!Finally I know when I encounter such in other books)

Highly entertaining, recommend reading this book.

Short in length but full of Regency Spice

One Duke's daughter who is happily resigned to spinsterhood. One Marquess. One insightful gossip columnist. Another season ends but the chemistry is only getting more explosive.

This short audiobook is thoroughly enjoyable. It is a well formed little nugget of a story with a lot going on and all of it with the flair and dramatics of the Regency period.

A Gem of a Story!

This is a gem of a story with Lady X up to her usual delicious bits of scandal and outing the Ton in her spreadsheet articles.
But could she get it to work in her favor?
I loved the secret of Lady X's identity being slowly uncovered to Lord Oliver and the power it gave him to woo Lady Helena and at last make her his.
These two characters are a delight. He is staid and set on a given course of action. She is secretive and unloved by her parents, hoping for peace and happiness as a spinster.
Lovely story, well written by Dawn Brower and very nicely narrated by Price Waldman. Listening to it was an enjoyable all round experience which I am happy to recommend.
I listened to the audiobook version and my unbiased review above is given voluntarily.
