Summary

Olivia Kingsley didn't expect to fall in love and receive a secret marriage proposal two weeks into her first season. However, one dance with Allen Wimpleton, heir to a viscountcy, and her fate is sealed. Or so she thinks until her eccentric and ailing father, unaware of Allen's proposal, announces he's moving the family to the Caribbean for a year. In two days.

Allen begs Olivia to elope to Scotland, knowing her father will refuse his offer of marriage after such a brief acquaintance with Olivia. Having recently lost her mother, and fearing for her father's health, she refuses, pleading with Allen to wait for her until she returns to England. Angry at her hesitancy, and unaware of her father's ill health, Allen demands she choose - him or her father.

Heartbroken at his callousness, but thankful he's revealed his true nature before she married him, Olivia turns her back on their love. The year becomes three, enough time for her broken heart to heal, and after her father dies, Olivia returns to England. Coming face to face with Allen, she realizes she never purged him from her heart and once again the flames of love ignite, but is it too late? Does Olivia have any hope of winning Allen's heart once more, or has he found another?

Great book and awesome narration..

I simply love these little novellas of Collette Cameron’s. To me, it’s like reading a novel. There’s a little angst, a little misunderstanding, a second chance, some sexual tension and an HEA. All that I require, sometimes.

Of course, there was no sex in this book but you could tell by Olivia and Allen’s thoughts that the desire was there.

I did like Olivia’s brother Bradford and her aunt Muriel. There was some funny chatter between the two, in the carriage ride to the Wimpletons, where Olivia will see Allen for the first time in 3 years, where they would discover they still loved one another.

This was a cute story and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

As to the narrator: Fabulous! Stevie Zimmerman is one of my favorites. Great voices and awesome emotions.

A sweet romance

Would you consider the audio edition of A Kiss for Miss Kingsley to be better than the print version?

Not necessarily, it depends on what you want at the time. Obviously it's quicker to read the book but listening to the audio version allows you to do other things or if you are unwell, just to relax and listen to someone else reading it for you. I found both versions very enjoyable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Olivia Kingsley, she remains strong even after her disappointment but hasn't become bitter. She has a very caring nature.

Have you listened to any of Stevie Zimmerman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this is the first time I've heard this narrator. I enjoyed her narration, I was pleased that she had an English accent as it was set in England with English people speaking.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A sweet romance

Any additional comments?

This is a novella so it lasted just over 2 hours, ideal for when your time is limited. I know longer audiobooks can take up to 2 weeks to find the time to listen to them.
I received a free copy . This is my honest review,

Undying Love

Allen Wimpleton must find a wife and produce an heir. It’s a nearly impossible task considering he has loved one woman for three years. A woman who he broke off with after hearing that her father was moving them to the Caribbean. With a broken heart, Olivia Kingsley left England and cared for her ailing father until his recent death. Now she and her brother have returned to England. Staying with their aunt, they attend a ball where Olivia knows Allen will be. Both still madly in love with each other, fear and pride keep them from sharing their true feelings. This is a novella, book one in The Honorable Rogues Series. It assumes a lot of background between the characters so there’s not much character development. Their reunion was sweet, but without what is usually found in a full length novel. This is a wonderful beginning and I’m looking forward to reading the remaining books in the series. Stevie Zimmerman has nicely narrated the audio version of the book. She has a pleasant voice and I didn’t notice any mispronunciations, nor is her reading stilted. I enjoyed the book.

Poor recordings

A shame really, because I think Ms Zimmerman’s narration would be an enjoyable listen. But for reasons I am unaware, the recordings sound metallic, or acoustic, and I’m distracted by it.

Great, engaging listen

This was a perfect listen for a sweet story. Olivia and Alan were the cutest and had some issues in their way. The Wimpleton ball was a perfect setting to see if the can get over their mishap from years past. I loved their story and the narration made it come alive! I would definitely recommend it!

oh what a tangled web we weave.

This is a wonderful tale of love lost, obligation, and the greatness of trying again. To never let things go unsaid. The narrator did a wonderful job with everyone's unique voice. A short and sweet must listen story.

Good start to the series

Reviewed by Jen Review originally posted at Romancing the Book Book provided by the author, however all opinions are my own This is a short second chance romance set in Regency England.  The story mostly takes place during one evening with a few flashbacks and then a short epilogue.  It's a cute, quick read / listen.  I'd had the ebook in my library when I was asked to review the audio version.  Since I hadn't read it yet, I took up the challenge. The audio version of A Kiss for Miss Kingsley checks in at just over 2 hours.  It's good for a commute or a good listen while doing chores or a walk.  I'm not sure I've ever listened to an audio book narrated by Stevie Zimmerman.  However, I enjoyed it.  Her pacing was excellent.  She didn't sound rushed and didn't drag out the story.  While she has an English accent, it was early to understand her.  I admit I did a double take a couple times at her pronunciation of a few words that were strange to my American ears.  I could have used a little more difference in the voices for the characters (especially the males), but it's not a deal breaker. Now the plot.  It's pretty simplistic.  Olivia and Allen had a whirlwind romance 3 years ago.  Allen wants to elope and Olivia wants to wait a little... and after a misunderstanding fast forward to a ball being thrown by Allen's parents.  Olivia and Allen reconnect and... well, it's a romance, you get the idea. It's a short story, so there's not a lot of time for character development or growth.  Most of the development happens using the flashbacks.  It sets the stage for current day.  But the fact that it's a short story also hinders it.  I felt that the resolution came way too fast and easy.  I needed a little more angst, a little more conflict, a little more romance.... just more. All in all, it is a cute story and quick read.  It's also the first book in a series and I'm curious enough to pick up book two.  And I'll definitely be checking out more of Stevie Zimmerman's narrations.

Lovely Second Chance Romance

Stevie Zimmerman narrates the short novella. It is only about 2-hours long. The narrator's voice is nice, but the characterizations of some of the characters seem a bit weak and thin. The writing is excellent and the story is well developed and well written. Though it is short, you don’t feel short-changed at all. You come to know the characters and to like them. I especially liked Olivia’s brother, Bradford and look forward to reading his book. Olivia Kingsley and Allen Wimpleton have a history. Three years earlier, during Olivia’s first season, they met and fell madly in love. That it happened over a two-week period didn’t matter to them. Then, out of the blue, Olivia’s eccentric father announced that he was taking his family to the Caribbean for a year and that they woule be leaving in two days time. He also shared that he was ill and the doctor had recommended the change. When Olivia told Oliver that her father was taking her away for a year, he got very angry and didn’t give her a real chance to explain or for them to discuss the issue. He just gave her an ultimatum that she had to choose either her father or him. Since she’d never seen that side of Allen, it frightened her. Olivia was so upset with Allen’s reaction that she never got around to telling him about her father’s illness, etc. So she was frightened for her father and now she was frightened of Oliver – so naturally, she chose to go with her father. Three years later, Olivia and her brother Bradford are back in London and her father has died. She knows she has to actually see and speak with Allen before she can ever actually get over him – or maybe they can reconcile. This is a lovely second changes story that takes place over the course of one evening. Can these two get past their feelings of hurt and betrayal? Will they be able to reclaim the love they once shared? Is forgiveness an option? You’ll just have to read/listen to this excellent novella to find your answers.
