Summary

It is deep winter. The darkness is unending. The private detective named Jaycob Eklund has vanished, and Charlie Parker is dispatched to track him down. Parker's employer, Edgar Ross, an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has his own reasons for wanting Eklund found. Eklund is no ordinary investigator. He is obsessively tracking a series of homicides and disappearances, each linked to reports of hauntings. Now Parker will be drawn into Eklund's world, a realm in which the monstrous Mother rules a crumbling criminal empire, in which men strike bargains with angels, and in which the innocent and guilty alike are pawns in a game of ghosts.

One of the best Parker books yet.

The Parker books show no sign of slowing down, in fact they are getting better and better, which as a fan I didn't think was possible.

Without giving anything thing away all I can say is the writing, setting and characters are all haunting and as cold as the Maine winters.

Vintage Charlie Parker - never disappointing!

All the usual characters with the dark humour and even darker supernatural occurrences, punctuated with some premature deaths. I still delayed cleaning my house to finish it though!

Excellent read

Another great book in the Charlie Parker series although I found it a little slow going at times. But if your a fan of the series it ticks all the boxes

Love them all but…

I think this is my favourite Charlie Parker novel. The characters are so rich. The main story fascinating with a certain twist that left me reeling.

Addictive series

One of the best in an series. Read them all in order for full enjoyment. Jeff Harding reads all but the first 3 I believe. His narration is perfect for subject matter of this kind.

Good Parker novel but seems a little like side thought

Good story as per usual but seems less relevant than the previous in the series. Some things do happen that progress the bigger story but this novels seems like a filler. Not much difference in what the (spoiler alert) Bretheren do in relation to what the Cut did. Same kind of baddies just with different corrupt entities leading them afoul. But it’s still worth a listen and Jeff Harding does a great job as always.
