Özet

Punk protagonist, legendary drinker, Irish musical icon. The complete and extraordinary journey of the Pogues' notorious front man from outcast to national treasure has never been told - until now.

A Furious Devotion: The Life of Shane MacGowan vividly recounts the experiences that shaped the greatest songwriter of his generation: the formative trips to his mother's homestead in Tipperary, the explosion of punk that changed his life, and the drink and drugs that nearly ended it.

As well as exclusive interviews with Shane himself, author Richard Balls has secured contributions from his wife and family and people who have never spoken publicly about Shane before: close associates, former girlfriends, and the English teacher who first spotted his literary gift. Nick Cave, Aidan Gillen, Cillian Murphy, Christy Moore, Sinead O'Connor, and Dermot O'Leary are on the rollcall of those paying tribute to the gifted songwriter and poet.

Enjoyed the book but the narration was shockingly bad. I read the negative reviews before hand & genuinely thought it wouldn’t bother me but it was just pure lazy.

A sad, troubled, unglamorous life. A waste of talent

A very good book that tells the fierce tales of a true songwriting genius! However the narrator butchers a lot of the Irish dialect and language and there’s no need to imitate accents when narrating an audiobook. Overall a really enjoyable experience!

Great schtuff!!!

The story of a true genius

did the narrator ever meet an Irish person or think it may be an idea to listen to an album or 2. The book was spoiled by the constant failure to pronounce irish names and places correctly. -

Have you ever met an Irish person (narrator) ?

I read this on the back of James Fearnley's excellent memoir, Richard Balls' narrative is fine but the Tantor Media audio book is an insult to the world of words - so many names and place names mispronounced and an almost unbearable rhythm of speech - Steven Toast could have done a better job down at Clem Fandango's studio! I would recommend an Eire governmemt grant to do a great reading for the world of Shane to enjoy.

Adequate Book, Awful Reading.
