Summary

Contains a few Amish words and phrases

Mary and Ruth are the best of friends.

Ruth leaves the village to work for a year at her relatives' farm in the community on the other side of town and so leaves her friend for a year. Whilst away, Ruth falls in love with a young man at the village, but is unsure if he feels the same way.

Mary misses her friend very much and becomes lonesome after her mother dies in a farming accident.

Mary has a chance encounter in town with an Amish boy from another community, and she falls hopelessly in love with him. It “appears” he has similar feelings but is not sure. When Ruth returns to the village, the friends share stories of love, both unsure if they are talking about the same man. Friendship is strained when it become evident that the man is the same one. What will they do?
