Summary

The complete, unabridged audiobook of A Feast for Crows.

HBO’s hit series A Game of Thrones is based on George R. R. Martin’s internationally best-selling series A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. A Feast for Crows is the fourth volume in the series.

The Lannisters are in power on the Iron Throne.

The war in the Seven Kingdoms has burned itself out, but in its bitter aftermath new conflicts spark to life. The Martells of Dorne and the Starks of Winterfell seek vengeance for their dead. Euron Crow’s Eye, as black a pirate as ever raised a sail, returns from the smoking ruins of Valyria to claim the Iron Isles.

From the icy north, where Others threaten the Wall, apprentice Maester Samwell Tarly brings a mysterious babe in arms to the Citadel. As plots, intrigue and battle threaten to engulf Westeros, victory will go to the men and women possessed of the coldest steel and the coldest hearts.

Critic reviews

"Fantasy literature has never shied away from grandeur, but the sheer mind-boggling scope of this epic has sent other fantasy writers away shaking their heads.... Its ambition: to construct the Twelve Caesars of fantasy fiction, with characters so venomous they could eat the Borgias." ( Guardian)
"Truly epic...with its magnificent action-filled climax, it provides a banquet for fantasy lovers with large appetites." ( Publishers Weekly)

Scene setting.....

If you could sum up A Feast for Crows (Part One) in three words, what would they be?

Slow, but key.....

What does Roy Dotrice bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Some simply fantastic accents!
I'm a big fan of Dotrice, and I think he portrays so many characters brilliantly!

Any additional comments?

Sets the story up well for Dance with Dragons. Just don't expect a gripping listen - as the earlier books were...

Not my favourite characters

Love the series, but these characters are not my favourite at all. For me it all kicks off in book 5 where all the best characters are! I think I need to listen again to fully understand what was going on though....

Unmissable for Fantasy readers

A mix of Gormenghast and Tolkien. Enjoyed the narration. Unmissable for readers of Fantasy tales.

Another fantastic book, but the narration?

This is a lot slower pass than the other 3 books but I love the inside into the characters you get especially Cersei and Jamie.
The narration though was a problem Roy Dotrive was fine in previous narration but this book had several wrong name pronunciation the most notable was Catelyn Starks and the Tyrells also the voice for little finger went from a soft sly tone to a common gruff accent, and Arya Stark started to have an Irish accent? It was slightly frustrating and took me out of the story whenever I noticed it.

Not the greatest of additions to the set

I will always enjoy these books but why ohhh why have the names changed from the first 3! The voices are also different. I understand the names need to be in line with series but the series should have been in line with the books!

A little less action packed than previous books

Still an excellent listen but I suppose I now have to wait patiently for book five ...

Glorious story, Roy was getting older

The story is as strong as ever. Roy D (RIP) was still an excellent narrator overall, although listeners to the previous books will struggle a bit at first as he had somehow forgotten the voices he used for some major characters, notably Arya and Tirion and Littlefinger, and their changed accents are a but jarring at first!

Excellent production of an excellent book

If you could sum up A Feast for Crows (Part One) in three words, what would they be?

More of the same.

What did you like best about this story?

It is a prefect continuation of thye Songs of Ice and Fire series

Have you listened to any of Roy Dotrice’s other performances? How does this one compare?

All the other books in Songs of Ice and Fire. In fact I bought volume 4 on CD when Audible for some unaccountable reason was not offering it. The narrator on the CD version was just not as good as Roy Doltrice which is why when I decided to re-listen to the series I bought the audible version. I so like his voice.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just fascination with a great story.

A Feast for fans.

Wonderfully narrated by Roy Dotrice, who seems to bring the characters alive.Georg R R Martin paints a picture of this troubled world as it strives to sort itself out.More intrigue, betrayal & a fast pace,if you have loved the previous books in the series then this will not disappoint.
