Summary
When Special Forces soldier Jason Morgan was left crippled by a mission that went wrong, battling depression and wheelchair-bound, his wife left him, and overnight he became a paraplegic father with three young boys to raise. He had lost the two very things that defined him: his military service plus his family and marriage.
As the pain spiked to unbearable levels, he agreed to have surgery to block it. But the doctors' promises that he would keep his mobility proved misplaced. After the surgery the pain was less, yet he'd lost the ability to move his legs.
It was then that Jason reached his lowest ebb. But it was then, too, that he heard about a not-for-profit call Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), one that specializes in providing service dogs to wounded veterans. Jason was convinced that his disability was serious enough to qualify him for a service dog and that CCI had just the animal for him.
Yet when he flew to their Oceanside, California, facility to meet his dog, Jason had no idea how much his life was about to change. So low was he that he wished that the airplane carrying him would tumble out of the sky and bring it all to an end. After meeting his black Labrador service dog, Napal, he would never do so again.
This is the story of how Napal enabled Jason to rebuild his life, to reconnect with his family and to find true peace against all the odds.

Woe is me
Any additional comments?
So disapointed with this read. There is only so much self pity my ears can handle and after 3 hours my soul couldnt take anymore. No one in the world has as suffered quite as much pain as the main character. No one comes close to the uphill struggle he has endured . The book just seems to be a vent for his narcissistic woe is me attitude to life.

Great story
A remarkable story about s remarkable man. Jason faced incredible challenges, and numerous low-points, and as an airborne warrior picked himself up and faced up to each & every one.
I would have given this straight 4's but the narration lets it down. Wooden, stilted, fragmented sentence narrative. It deserved better.

Tugs at your heart strings all the way
At times I cried, at times my heart soared it was a realyl emotional read.
It's as much about the man as the dog and gives you insight into how wounded servicemen and women struggle after making a great sacrifice for their country.
It also gives you insight into service dogs and the compassion and hard work that goes into training these dogs.
The resilience of the human spirit, man's connection with dogs, the intelligence and love a dog can have all shine through beautifully in this book.

Inspiring Service Dog Story.
It was lovely to hear the story of this amazing service dog Nepal, from his first puppy raiser to his disabled veteran partner. A very mellow listen, but be prepared to be sad at times too. So many people with so much to bear.
Thank you for sharing your story.

Uplifting, heartwarming, sad and inspiring.
Jason’s story is really inspiring. There were happy bits and sad bits. The way Napal gave him his life back was amazing. It is a sad ending but the story shows that anyone can overcome anything if determined. This is a fantastic read.
