BOOK 5 IN THE BESTSELLING CANON CLEMENT MYSTERY SERIES

'Another clever, twisty read' i Paper
'You'll want to take a front row pew in Champton while this delicious series unfolds' Janice Hallett

It's spring 1990, and in Champton the whole village is aflutter as a glamorous Hollywood movie has taken over Lord de Floures' Champton House as its set location.

As the actors and extras hired from the village don their farthingales, gowns and crowns for a masque set in the 1600s, a murder interrupts filming on set - and it's an ingenious one . . .

Can Daniel solve the mystery with help from his sidekick, Detective Sergeant Neil Vanloo - even when things are so sticky between them?©2025 Mistramark Ltd

I enjoyed this so much. I love the way the characters are developing over time & the bizarre mix of detective story with a deep understanding and love of the Church of England. I think Audrey Clement is one of my favourite creations of all time! I hope there are more stories on their way.

I think this is the best in the series !

This is no Miss Marple or Father Brown story. it is a more modern take on the murder mystery with sex and drugs . All the characters have their own eccentricities. The women are all portrayed as being older and somewhat silly. I wondered if the village possessed any younger women of child bearing age to produce the next generation. They would struggle to find any suitable straight men to help them to go forth and multiply!

The characters are vividly portrayed. This is achieved by the excellent reading.

I love this, the storyline, the links to the West Country and the delicate ways in which the stories are weaved together although would be great as a a standalone book - but don’t do that, read them all!

Another beautiful banger by Coles!

Thank you Richard for another visit to Champton. I really enjoy the way you write, Each word picked up and weighed carefully in the hand before being placed on the page. The thing about Daniel is that he is believable as a person, right down to his extensive knowledge base.
I only have one glaring complaint - I’ve finished the book, what can I follow it with?

I was wrong footed again!
