About this listen

1957 - Young Queen Elizabeth II is finding her way in a challenging world as the United Kingdom must adjust to having neither an empire nor a set place in post-war Europe.

As she travels the world to try and build bridges, the Queen is advised by the 'men in moustaches', as Philip calls them - her father's old courtiers, who may or may not have her best interests at heart. One of them is trying to sabotage her: that much she is sure of.

And then two bodies turn up, horribly murdered, in Chelsea, and the Queen finds herself unwillingly used as the alibi for somebody very close to her.

Elizabeth knows she can't face these challenges alone. She needs support from someone clever, discreet and loyal, someone she can trust. Then she meets ex-Bletchley Park code breaker, Joan McGraw, and their investigation into the murders begins in earnest . . .©2024 SJ Bennett (P)2024 Bonnier Books UK

I have enjoyed the previous 3 novels, however this is my favourite. The setting of the story in the 1950’s was an inspiration. More please

Excellent

This book does not follow on, but goes back in time, perhaps to when the Queen might have started solving murders! The new set of charactors we are introduced to almost makes you think you are starting a new serise. Still with great strong female leads, that help the Queen find the clues to solve the puzzle. Read brillianty again by Samanth Bond.

Review A Death in Diamonds by S J Bennett

I loved the narration and speed with which the book moved along. Not so much a meander through a privileged life as a brisk walk through recent history - certainty within my lifetime.

A great story and a glimpse of a private life.

a good story, well researched and kept me listening and interested throughout.
The return of Narrator a key to the overall enjoyment.
Thank you to both Miss Bennett and Miss Bond
