Summary

Book one in beloved author Anna Jacobs' brand-new Birch End series.

Jo Melling has arrived in Birch End from Australia, still grieving her father's recent death. She's not intending to stay long, but after tracking down her distant family, Jo becomes more involved in village life than she could ever have imagined - and suddenly in danger, too.

Jo also finds herself drawn to Nick, a handsome newcomer to the village. Nick had planned to settle in Birch End and start a business, but as he grows closer to Jo, he realises he may have to choose between his dreams and a chance at love.

Meanwhile, the new local council are faced with some tough decisions of their own. It's time to take a stand against the poor conditions in Backshaw Moss, the nearby slum, but some councillors want things to stay as they are - and will go to any lengths to make sure they get their way....

Will the decent people of the valley win a brighter future for themselves? And can Jo find a way to stay with Nick in a place she's grown to love?

Another good read by Anna Jacobs

Loving the series of these books having read the series before this one aswell , going straight onto book 2 from this series, only downside to this series is the narrator has been changed from the first series and isn’t as good unfortunately, has taken a bit getting used to this narrator emphasizing words that don’t need to be and the men character voices aren’t great , but enjoyed the story overall

Another great read

I loved this! Impossible to stop listening to... Anna Jacobs is one of the best storytellers of our time and provides the best distraction to today's hectic world, taking you back in time to harder, but simpler times.

Narration faults

If narrating established characters from previous series it would be useful if new narrator listened to get understanding of characters, there was characters in this book that were in Ellindale series this narrator ruined the established characters and it was really annoying, almost gave up but I had bought the series

A Daughter’s Journey

As usual, Anna Jacobs has written another wonderful story and I certainly can recommend this. I must admit that at first I found the narrator’s voice of the male characters a little hard to listen to, but it soon became acceptable. Glad everything ended happily.

another great book

another great story from a very talented author it's like your in the village and know the people there they are so real I give this book 4 stars because the other characters stories didn't end so we don't know what happened I wish she would give a epilogue on each characters she introduced in the main story but still a great listen
