Summary

The start of a cozy crime series! Welcome to Hopgood Hall.

An unlikely duo...

When investigative journalist, Alexi Ellis, falls victim to cutbacks, she and Cosmo, her anti-social feral cat, head for beautiful Hopgood Hall, where they plan to lick their wounds in the boutique hotel run by her old friends, Cheryl and Drew Hopgood.

A missing woman...

But when she arrives Alexi discovers Cheryl and Drew both distraught. Their close friend, Natalie Parker, who recently settled in the area, has gone missing. Alexi’s sure the woman has just taken a trip somewhere, but she still has a nose for a story and agrees to look into it.

A case to solve!

So too does ex-Met Police detective turned private eye, Jack Maddox. Natalie Parker had been using his sister’s online dating agency and Jack needs to find her before his sister’s business is ruined.

Reluctantly, Alexi, Jack - and Cosmo! - join forces to find out what happened to Natalie. But soon they discover secrets that someone desperately wants to make sure are never revealed!

Perfect for fans of Faith Martin, Frances Evesham and Emma Davies.

A Date to Die For audible book

I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline of A Date to Die For and will buy further books in this collection. Alexi's cat was an added bonus and brought a smile to my face each time he was mentioned. The only downside was that the narrator struggled with the male characters. Overall though, a wonderful listen.

This is a solid mystery series!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book the story is intriguing and somewhat sad too, there is also some great humour. The characters are very likable with fun relationships and good banter. I love Cosmo the cat! Laura Kirman as the narrator is excellent with a wonderful performance. I believe E.V. Hunter is my new favourite author. I'm actually a little disappointed that there was no swearing because frankly with the situations that happen I would be loosing my mind and using colourful language to tell some of the people to politely go away and do things to themselves because they are not very nice people! And when you listen to this book you will understand who I'm talking about and would completely agree. I binged this book in one day I thought it was very entertaining and fast paced too it went pretty quick. I am excited to see what E.V. Hunter does next this book series deserves some love and to do well!

Amateurish

I listened to the end as the general story line was good. I don't like knocking authors but I found the script rather amateurish. I almost gave up but wanted to find out the end.
The narration is annoying. She has a great sounding voice but her accents and winging tone really is really off putting.

Enjoyable

Found this a good listen . Liked the characters and the story line .
Could see an interesting partnership ahead and was looking forward
to sequel .
Just so disappointed that in the second book of the series , the author
decided to include rather explicit sex . Wasn’t needed or wanted .
Ruined the series for me and I returned the second book .

Enjoyable distraction

Easy listen with no waffling.
Didn’t play too much on obvious romantic themes.
Kept me interested to the end, hadn’t worked out the villain,
Would recommend if looking for a pleasant distraction that is not gory/ violent/ excessive swearing.
Will listen to second in the series

Very dull

Okay story line, quite dull and predictable. I found the narration irritating by the end of the book, putting emphasis on the wrong words in a sentence and had an annoying lilt.
