Summary

DI Kate Young can’t trust anybody. Not even herself.

In the bleak countryside around Blithfield Reservoir, a serial murderer and rapist is leaving a trail of bloodshed. His savage calling card: the word ‘MINE’ carved into each of his victims.

DI Kate Young struggles to get the case moving - even when one of the team’s own investigators is found dead in a dumpster. But Kate is battling her own demons. Obsessed with exposing Superintendent John Dickson and convinced there’s a conspiracy running deep in the force, she no longer knows who to trust. Kate’s crusade has already cost her dearly. What will she lose next?

When her stepsister spills a long-buried secret, Kate realises she’s found the missing link - now she must prove it before the killer strikes again. With enemies closing in on all sides, she’s prepared to do whatever it takes to bring them down. But time is running out, and Kate's past has pushed her to the very edge. Can she stop herself from falling?

Brilliant Book

I have read all of Carol Wyer’s books and this one didn’t disappoint. The storyline was very good and kept me guessing right to the end.

Will Kate Finally Get Revenge

Kate is still reeling from the death of her husband. While trying to secretly investigate his murder, she must also find a monster who is attacking women and carving the word "Mine" on their back. She is also trying to rekindle her relationship with her sister, a victim of past trauma.

As she Investigates the assults/murders the attacks are eriely similar to her sister's attack 20 years earlier. Will Kate find the suspect before there is another victim?

Carol Wyer wrote a fast paced, twisting story that kept me enthralled to the end.

I HATE IT WHEN AUTHORS TRY TO GET BOTH THE POLICE

Procedural market AND the "romance" / Harlequin market. blech! I mean really, why ruin a solid mystery by having the main character "speak" with her dead husband (she channels him by "talking in his own voice" of all dumb things. Come ON! TALK ABOUT SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF! AUTHOR IS TRIVIALIZING HER OWN WORK AND RUINING AN OTHERWISE ENGAGING BOOK. Really! Is this main character insane, or merely having a nervous breakdown?!?! Disappointing, and FREAKISHLY MAUDLIN AND WEIRD AS SHE argues with HERSELF in the guise of aforementioned CORPSE. GEE, and I bet author's fav movie is "Ghost""? phew, a real STINKER OF a book, either drop this one of far TOO MANY storyline because you are swirling the bowl here, or drop this odd off shoot and retain the otherwise "okay" character - AND STAY FAR AWAY FROM ANY ADDITIONAL SOAP OPERA STORYLINES. Don't you have an editor? If so, is this book a BAD joke or are you making good on a lost bet,? 2 stars is a generous tip of my hat for author's previous offerings.
