DI Kate Young can’t trust anybody. Not even herself.

In the bleak countryside around Blithfield Reservoir, a serial murderer and rapist is leaving a trail of bloodshed. His savage calling card: the word ‘MINE’ carved into each of his victims.

DI Kate Young struggles to get the case moving - even when one of the team’s own investigators is found dead in a dumpster. But Kate is battling her own demons. Obsessed with exposing Superintendent John Dickson and convinced there’s a conspiracy running deep in the force, she no longer knows who to trust. Kate’s crusade has already cost her dearly. What will she lose next?

When her stepsister spills a long-buried secret, Kate realises she’s found the missing link - now she must prove it before the killer strikes again. With enemies closing in on all sides, she’s prepared to do whatever it takes to bring them down. But time is running out, and Kate's past has pushed her to the very edge. Can she stop herself from falling?

“Henrietta Meire portrays Detective Kate Young with the perfect cadence and English accents in this second in a series.… Meire's careful enunciation clearly reflects the detective's need for control. Using tone and appropriate accents, Meire smoothly moves listeners between characters and deftly provides emotional color. Overall, Meire does a fantastic job ensuring that listeners remain engrossed in Kate's world.” —AudioFile Magazine

Right, my review will be a bit off today though the story was good and I enjoyed it.
My concern is with the narration. I can't help thinking this voice is not an actual person. The pace is off, the pronunciation is debatable (Allowing for American and British/Scottish dialects), and I am left asking if this is an AI oration? I don't wish to disrespect the narrator but you sound robotic.
That all said, the actual story is gritty and at times hard to listen to, but not so I didn't complete it.
I would be very interested to hear back regarding the narration. Audible is about real people reading the work surely? Or, am I behind the times. How do you call yourself a narrator if your voice is not your own?
Mmh!

Not so sure.

I have read all of Carol Wyer’s books and this one didn’t disappoint. The storyline was very good and kept me guessing right to the end.

I do find the narrator’s voice a bit harsh to listen to , but when emotions are needed , it’s spot on .. Another totality superb
Storyline to it and I recommend all the books in the series

Totally brilliant

I enjoyed the story thought I knew where it was heading in places and it went somewhere else entirely so that was good the only downside to it was the narrator, I'm sorry to be unkind but I found it too high pitched for most of it so I could only listen in small segments as it gave me a headache, however that being said I still found it interesting enough to listen to the end.

Interesting story
