Summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Kathy Reichs returns with her 19th riveting novel featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, who must use all her tradecraft to discover the identity of a faceless corpse, its connection to a decade-old missing child case, and why the dead man had her phone number.

It’s sweltering in Charlotte, North Carolina and Temperance Brennan, still recovering from neurosurgery following an aneurysm, is battling nightmares, migraines, and what she thinks might be hallucinations when she receives a series of mysterious text messages, each containing a new picture of a corpse that is missing its face and hands. Immediately, she’s anxious to know who the dead man is, and why the images were sent to her.

An identified corpse soon turns up, only partly answering her questions.

To win answers to the others, including the man’s identity, she must go rogue. With help from a number of law enforcement associates including her Montreal beau Andrew Ryan and the always-ready-with-a-smart-quip, ex-homicide investigator Skinny Slidell, and utilising new cutting-edge forensic methods, Tempe draws closer to the astonishing truth.

But the more she uncovers, the darker and more twisted the picture becomes....

I missed the forensic anthropology

I've read or listened to all the Temperance Brennen books. Linda Emond is the voice of Tempe for me now. A large appeal of the series for me is the forensic anthropology. This barely gets a look in this time. It's more about forensic internet investigation and fake news. I still enjoyed listening to Kathy Reichs' first person, lively writing style, although she uses more than her share of questions, which can become irritating and repetitive. The postscript on the ideas that lead to the book was an interesting addition. For readers new to KR, I suggest you start much earlier in the series - the beginning?

Struggled to finish this

I felt there was a lot of repetition in this book, the story was very padded out. I didn't enjoy it and that was a big disappointment to me as a long time fan. it's well read but what's being read is not great. sorry.

Kathy you're da'bomb!

Narrator Linda Emond is perfect to my mind she is Tempe. Plot very contemporary and as with all KR's Tempe books a most compelling listen.

In True Kathy/Temp Style

Great storyline, gripping and intricate with plenty to get me thinking. Always great to get updates on favourites in the storyline, Ryan, Slidell, Mamma and of course Temp!
