About this listen
Fall in love with this captivating Regency romance! Perfect for fans of Georgette Heyer, Mary Balogh, Jane Aiken Hodge, and Jane Austen.
Can a feckless rake become the ideal husband?
Regency London: With her family in dire straits, Kate Harmon agrees to marry the rakish Viscount Nicholas Dunston in return for a generous settlement from his father.
But before she even meets her fiance, she overhears him promising to continue his affair with his mistress.
Horrified, Kate enters the marriage with an air of coldness and distance.
Determined to overcome her dislike, Nicholas attempts to endear himself to his new wife.
And though she has resolved not to fall in love, Kate soon finds it difficult to resist her husband's charms . . .
©1980 Dorothy Mack (P)2022 TantorThe story is not, perhaps, very novel: protagonists are forced into marriage and what becomes of suspicions and things not said. The writing is well paced and characters compelling. It was very difficult to put this book down, just wanted to listen to all in one go. No anatomical bedroom scenes, thank god, but still lots of passion. Narration is passable, though not perfect, i.e. "ball dress" was read as "bull dress", "books" were "boeks", "patently" was American and not British "peitntly".
