Summary

"Such a truly beautiful story! The writing is gorgeous, the scenery is beautiful.... You should definitely pick up this one! Superb, unique, and sexy." (Tia Louise, Author)

What impact would it have when everything suddenly faded to black?

For Mia, a crowded subway ride changes her entire life. Retreating to the wilderness helps her cope with a world that is suddenly too loud, too turbulent. Her existence safely contained to the small cottage on the lake, she is unprepared for the neighbor that moves across the bay.

A career-ending injury has Jared permanently benched. His reputation as The Enforcer won’t survive the unanticipated responsibilities awaiting him. Away from the public eye, he adjusts to his new reality, under the quiet observation of the intriguing hermit on the other side of the water.

Utterly Brilliant!

A Change in Tide, the first book in the Northern Lights, is a such a beautifully written and heartfelt romance, I just fell in love with the story and the characters. This was my first Freya Barker book, and I'm entirely impressed by her writing style and phenomenal character development. I was utterly captivated by the words and emotions, and I can't wait for the second volume in the series.

Terrific dual narration by Charley Ongel and Tor Thom; both narrators did an incredible job with the characters; they captured all the nuances, bringing the story to life. I loved everything about this audiobook, one I highly recommend.

Moving forward, finding life

This is a beautifully written story of Mia struggle to take charge of her life again, Jared is a big hockey star but injury has thrown a curve ball, can the Enforcer find his happy ever after, as life has been good now he's going to have to dig deep for what he truly wants.
Mia"a journey is hard you feel every challenge that she has to get through, at times the tears flowed when the struggle got hard. When her training takes over as a midwife she becomes this strong invincible women. It hard when life is not like this all the time.
Jared and Mia story is amazing with lots of ups and downs a story of two people creating a family they thought the had lost.
Tor and Charley bring this book to life fabulous choice for the voices of these characters.

great story; 2 small mistakes in audio

Great story especially if you are looking for a slightly older couple. New author for me and looking forward to continuing with this series.

The narration was fabulous - both were mostly new to me and would love more from them, especially Charley Ongel as I really enjoyed her female voice more than a lot of the more popular female narrators.

There were 2 small mistakes in the audio - the beginning of Chapter 23 and one before that but I messed up with the bookmark to save the spot and can't remember where it is anymore - closer to the beginning.

While I can see why everyone hated chapter 1 I can look past it. BUT hated chapter 34 (the last chapter before the epilogue).

Chapter 34 spoiler-ish -

I just don't understand why authors feel the need to include that for a HEA. I don't have that issue but feel it really spits in the face of women that have troubles. Dump your partner and get a new one as that's apparently all you need to do - GRRRR!

A change in Tide, book 1

Wow, loved this story where both main characters deal with their own anxieties, fears and growth towards each other in a captivating, sweet and steamy way full of bumps and turns. Mia and Jared are both realistic persona's you can't help but be fully invested in from the get go and they are supported by a host of wonderful family members and friends.
The narrators performing are excellent in voice, pace and bringing the entire story to life.

Loved it enough to buy it

I really enjoyed A Change in Tide by Freya Barker, mainly for the emotion reaction her words cause.

To loose everything, almost overnight to a fear you never saw coming, to feel so vulnerable around others, even when buying groceries, I can only imagine.

For Mia, she has spent years hiding from those fears, until the day Jared arrives and makes a splashing waves in the sea of tranquility.

What starts as a perceived clash of personalities, slowly develops into a friendship and inevitably something more.

The dual narration of this story is perfect and I would recommend to anyone looking for something to wile away the time on their daily commute, working from home or escaping the same four walls.

Everything That I Could Have Wished For & More❣

This was a very MOVING and HEARTFELT story that through it all gave me everything and then some, that will have me singing it's praise for a longtime to come.

This was a 1st time listen from Freya Barker for me. I have to say her writing is EXQUISITE, FILLED WITH WARMTH and COMPASSION that covers you like a 'RAY OF SUNSHINE,' it was the PERFECT taste of reading.

Ms. Barker humanized her characters with RAW EMOTIONS that allowed for love to catch up. It felt wonderful to hear love unfold, causing my love for this novel to grow even more!

Ms. Barker gave clear DESCRIPTION of everything that transpired throughout every chapter, which made it that much easier for you to imagine yourself there.

The narrator's Charley Ongel and Thor Thom are well known in the audiobook circles but this is my 1st time having the pleasure of hearing them and I'm just "BLOWN AWAY" by their VOCAL TALENTS.

Their voice tones simply ASTONISHED me into submission. Thor Thom has that 'RASPY PANTY DROPPING' voice, that I found myself having Naughty Thoughts. Charley was the PERFECT Mia. She made her come to Life. The duet definitely deserves more than 5-⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐s but that's all we're able to give. I hope to enjoy the two of you as a duet in future novels.

There're no questions, I HIGHLY recommend this novel to others. You will be very disappointed with yourself if not...

HEA

Dang that First scene is hot.... and the shower scene.... and... well you get the point “wink, wink” I loved the characters but there were a couple of times I was like “what do you want Mia?!” However Jarrod had tons of patience with her. I did enjoyed the narrators voices but there are a couple of technical difficulties with editing I think we miss the end of chapter 3 and a couple of other weird spots, nothing too bad. Overall I enjoyed this book and I recommend it.

No more book slump!

This book, wow. The characters were complex and the story was captivating. The narration was excellent. It brought the author’s incredible words to life and added an extra dimension to a multi layered story. Life got in the way, or I would have finished this book in one sitting. I’m so glad to have been given the opportunity to listen. I can’t wait for book 2.

sweet, sexy and emotional. Great narration

Rating - story: 4 stars, narration: 4.5 stars

Sweet, sexy, slow burn love story, I really enjoyed this book, the first I've read by this author.

Jared is a recently retired ice hockey star, known as The Enforcer. As per Mia, I had to look up what that was (being English is my excuse) and he certainly lived up to his nickname. Protective to the core he would do anything for his family. His caveman reactions to his 36 year old sisters new man did make me chuckle, but honestly who wouldn't want a loyal, loving, fiery man like him in your corner!

Mia has lived alone and away from people for years thanks to her chronic agoraphobia and PTSD. She's alive but not living, existing day to day with her dog Griffin. I really felt her emotional struggles and fears. My heart broke a little for how hard life had been for her and what she'd lost, but I loved the way Jared cared, calmed and gave her hope, confidence and the space to deal with the huge changes to her existence he brought, even as she did the same for him and his sister Jordy. Tragedy had affected them both, their connection was sweet and slow building but grew to something wonderful and steamy!

"how is it possible that when I thought I already had everything—beyond anything I could ever have conjured up—there is more yet?” ~ Jared

Although it seems chapter 1 wasnt for everyone, I'd urge anyone to carry on reading. I had no issues with it at all. Yes there's an ow, but Jared is single! Of course he should have been more sensible about it and being drunk isn't an excuse. However, I think it was an important scene for Mia as I saw her reactions as the beginning of her jump start back to life.

I listened to the audio version. Both narrators were excellent, although I'm probably being a bit picky, the female narrator could have had a bit more expression sometimes perhaps on the more emotional scenes. There was also a slight glitch towards the end of chapter 3, where it jumped to the beginning of chapter 4, but not much was missed.

A Change in Tide was a beautifully written heartwarming story about looking inside yourself and deciding life is too short to not live it. Where finding the right person to trust can lead to a soul healing love.

I'm looking forward to reading more from this author as I really enjoyed this.
