Story
Twenty-year-old amateur sleuth Kim returns from a well-earned Christmas holiday, definitely one year older but not all that much wiser. Her business affairs appear to be going well, but she misses the challenge and thrill of a good case to solve. Just as she is getting truly bored with administrating her businesses, a fascinating case arises, and she is called into action by her fiancé in the Carabinieri. A terrible death has occurred, and the police have most of the facts at their disposal, but a crucial period in the relevant timeline is unaccounted for.

Melissa Craig is absolutely delighted with her new life in an old crumbling cottage, spending her days pruning the primroses and getting to know Binkie, the ginger cat next door. She only wishes she had made the move to the countryside sooner. But when a knock at the door brings news of a shocking discovery, she suddenly finds herself thrown in to the middle of a baffling mystery: the bones of a young woman have been found in the woods just behind her new home. Perhaps the little village of Upper Bembury is not as idyllic as it first seemed? Strange phone calls in the night convince Melissa that the police are barking up completely the wrong tree, so she can’t resist doing a little digging of her own. From the bingo hall to the beauty salon and beyond, her search ruffles a few feathers and uncovers many of the village’s most scandalous secrets, but gets her no closer to finding the culprit.

Summary
Nineteen-year-old amateur sleuth Kim is bogged down trying to resolve issues for other people while also trying to make a little money for herself. But she receives a strange, unexpected message that appears to be a plea for help, but from whom and from where is not at all clear.
Nothing more than that is required to engage Kim’s dynamic determination to relentlessly investigate until she has got to the bottom of the matter, has helped whoever it was asked for help, and has brought to justice whoever instigated the need for help.
There are moments of mirth along the way and some opportunities for the odd romantic interlude, too.

Love the narration of these books, so easy to listen to. Plots twist and turn and it’s hard to switch off - not sure I’m looking forward to the next book as it is the last in the series. I don’t want it to end, but I’ll probably just start again at the beginning 😍 will look for other books narrated by Claire Nicholls.

Kim vs the Carabinieri !
Italy, LGBT, law-enforcement, romance, suspense
Kim is nineteen, has several interesting jobs, lives a sort of double life, is engaged to two different people, often has to help others find a job, is a Brit living in Italy despite having no Italian. She is also well known as a detective consultant to the Carabinieri, but when they don't listen to her she finds her own way to solve the crime! Another fun story!
Claire Nicholls continues to be excellent as narrator!
