About this listen

As a modern nation with deeply ancient roots, England has undoubtedly impacted the world around it. But how much of England is English? From the earliest Anglo-Saxon monarchs to the Windsor family, monarchs with foreign origins have occupied the throne. Much like its language, England has been shaped by the cultures that came to the island and the cultures around the world it attempted to overtake.

Continually marred by bloody conflict from its nascent days, England has thrived due to its strange brand of adaptability and the indomitable will to carry onward.

In A Brief History of England, you will step back into the past to uncover the underpinnings of English civilization’s unique resiliency. From Boudicca to the Blitz, from beheadings to Brexit, scroll up and click 'buy now' to meet the culture that conquered the world.

Love these short hour-long learning experiences. Great listen in the car this one, my favourite chapter was the penultimate one, detailing the expansion and the influence the empire had over the rest of the world. Truly fascinating.

Great little history lesson

As someone who enjoys history as well as a lover of all things vikings, I truly enjoyed this book. The author provided a good background of England's early history and tied it in nicely at the end with an overview of modern day times.

Great summary of England's history

I'm British and didn't know half this stuff. This well-presented audiobook gives you a great insight into why Britain may be a small island but is also a world leader in trade. It also speaks why our language is the No1 used language in the world.
