Summary

In their book Drive Nacho Drive, Brad and Sheena Van Orden traded the American Dream for the open road, and set off in their temperamental 1984 VW van named "Nacho." After 13 months of humorous and sometimes demoralizing misadventures along the Pan-American Highway, our intrepid subjects eventually arrived at the southernmost town in the world in Tierra del Fuego. This is where 927 Days of Summer picks up the trail. After shipping Nacho from Argentina to Malaysia on a container ship, Brad and Sheena resume their journey, this time with the ambitious goal of driving all the way around the world. When they roll out of the shipping container onto Malaysian soil, their odometer turns over to 300,000 miles. Is Nacho really up for the brutal journey ahead? This hilarious and harrowing tale cuts through the sweltering jungles of Southeast Asia to the buzzing hornet's nest of India, from the remote Nepalese Himalayas to the stony hills of Anatolia, on to the Sahara Desert of Africa, through Europe and beyond. Whether dodging rickshaws on crater-filled roads, defying Maoist rebels on cliff-hanging Himalayan tracks, getting hopelessly stuck in the desert on the Pakistani border, or becoming the subjects of an international missing persons' case in the remote mountains of Laos, there is never a dull moment in 927 Days of Summer. Come along as a diverse cast of characters guides our determined travelers through a world of unfolding landscapes and cultures on the road trip to end all road trips, and then ask yourself: can you really just go home, unpack, and eat a sandwich?

Can A must read. But read previous journey

A follow on to "Drive Macho Drive". The first adventure in their VW van called "Nacho".
Like it's predecesor, it shows the courage, resourcefulness and down right cheek of these great round the world travelers.
Breakdowns, running out of money. Border problems, even I could not invent; having faced similar events myself. Ingenuity, getting out of amazing problems.I
Meet, and make excellent friends along the way. Fellow travellers and locals

.Nott least, but vital to any travel journey:- they fully integrated themselves into each countries cultures, and many odd-ball characters, fellow travellers, and what to armchair, and most readers are, travellers, using what to many seem shaddy, corrupt and other means to get out of difficulties.
All I have used in years of adventure journeys round the world.
They also meet the very true generous side of honest, true locals. All willing to go that extra mile to help the couple through diffichlties. All at local cheapo rates, ingenious solutions. Free local hospitality never seen in "Civilized" modern rich nations.
I wish what I now seem Mini-adventures, of 30 days of less had been longer, and what I now view as dipping a toe in local areas, even though I was cycling.
My Score for the couple's both books is a 10/10 must read. Forget my blogs they are put to shame by these great Round the World true adventurers and travellers.
Read, these great must reads.

The best audio books I've listened too!!

I actually listened to this book before Drive Nacho Drive. I can honestly say these are the best audio books I have listened too. EVER!!

I listened to them both within a week. Brad has a very good way of telling a story. Both in what he's written and how he reads it.

You can tell these are read by someone pasionate about the story and not just a paid narrator reading another book. For this reason I generally struggle with audio books.

On another note I have found there story inspiring. Genuinely! I did some travelling 7 years ago and these books have reignited a need to travel again in some way.

later in the year I'm going to Greece to compete in my sport.

I'm now planning on driving there from the UK :-)

Just a really great listen.

A Really well narrated tale of travels and friendships made along the way. I just loved Brads voices, especially his Sheena impressions.

Awful impressions

Epic story, lots of detail that makes me want to book my flight away now! However Brad's vocal impressions verge of racist they're that bad!

Download the sample.

I invested my money and time into both books, while the content was excellent I feel Brad and Sheena narrating it was a huge mistake. Brads voice is bland and Sheenas slightly better but saving the money on professional readers nearly made me abandon this and the previous book more then once . Saying that, excellent story even if Brad mentions teenage girls far too many times and is a little creepy. It would be an excellent book to read. Download the sample to test if you can tolerate the voice. Sorry Brad.
