Summary

While singleness is often widely misunderstood by many in the church today and often viewed in negative terms, the Bible speaks about it very differently. This book sets forth a positive vision of singleness by responding to seven common misconceptions, such as the notion that singleness is too hard, requires a special spiritual gift, is a hindrance to ministry, or is a waste of sexuality. Addressed to the church as a whole and written by a single pastor, 7 Myths About Singleness will help listeners better understand, support, and empower the singles around them to contribute to the flourishing of the church as a whole.

Brilliant book. But please hire some Brits!

Fantastic book! Only one I know if on this issue and it's a cracker!

But learn to pronounce the author's name and any referenced cultural oddities. I'm sure we can hope for that with the internet.

Biblically and personally rich reflection

Rewarding for both singles and non-singles this book both deals with common Christian misconceptions about singleness and gives deeply Biblical and personally reflective account of the single life in both it's challenges and blessings.

Good to read while you're single!

I like the way in which Sam Allberry explains the difficulties of both sides (singleness and marriage) not letting one better than the other. He's very open and sincere to tell about his struggles, and that gets even closer to the heart.
I've heard some of his preachings and I've discovered a treasure in him. He's a great Pastor!

Outstanding.

This is easily the best book on Christian singleness I’ve ever read. It’s packed with truth, encouragement, and wise counsel - plus it’s a super easy read.

Simple and good

I’m glad Sam has added his voice to this topic. I do hope it encourages and challenges many. However, having read many books on singleness and listened to sermons, podcasts, etc on the topic, there’s nothing really new in this book: Singleness is good and challenging. Jesus was single, Paul was single. Use your singleness for others. Build friendships.
I do appreciate that Sam knows by experience what he is stating and that may be the book’s most valuable asset.
The narrator was good.

Best discussion on singleness ever

Sam has written a great book examining myths spoken and / or perceived among society and specifically Christians.

A must read especially for people in ministry.

So Helpful

This is an amazing book! I listen to this book after my engagement ended, and it gave amazing encouragement and helped me dive deeper into God’s word. Highly suggest listening to it along side the RZIM Cover to Cover podcast.

Singles and marrieds alike should definitely give an ear to Sam Allberry on the subject of biblical singleness. The Church needs a godly understanding of marriage and family and singleness, and how it all works together for the advancement of God’s kingdom. He addresses so many lies about singleness and marriage and breathes fresh, applicable revelation.

Honest and intense

I appreciate how he is honest about his own struggles with maintaining joy amidst celibacy. I do ultimately believe, as he does, but the reality is it is a hard road to walk. There are also a lot of other realities that he puts out in the book and you’ll have to read it to find out more!

Wonderful addition to the conversation

I greatly appreciated hearing a side of the conversation that I live, but don’t hear other people talking about. I am looking forward to sharing the book with family and friends who have been concerned for me, as well as people who are raising their children. This gives good perspective on how Good God always is, in every circumstance, and how we can support each other better.

Interesting Book

Interesting perspective on Singleness. Didn't really feel like the myths or points were clear but interesting nonetheless.
