Summary

For an instant the two trains ran together, side by side. In that frozen moment, Elspeth witnessed a murder. Helplessly, she stared out of her carriage window as a man remorselessly tightened his grip around a woman's throat. The body crumpled. Then the other train drew away. But who, apart from Miss Marple, would take her story seriously? After all, there were no suspects, no other witnesses...and no corpse.

Classic Christie

One of Agatha Christie's best known novels, the books sees Miss Marple come up with a cunning plan to obtain information about a murder on a train. There are some fantastic characters too, such as the capable Lucy Eyelesbarrow and curmudgeonly old Mr Crackenthorpe. Read by the quintessential Miss Marple herself, Joan Hickson, who has the perfect delivery (though I found it odd at first when she referred to Miss Marple in the third person!). Recommended for Christie fans.

Miss Marple, but not much of her!

Miss Marple is a recurrent character through the book but the main character is actually her friend Lucy. The story is classic Agatha Christie, and gets straight down to it, with a murder in the first few minutes. Rather a slow middle but picks up again towards the end and was very enjoyable. Lovely narration by Joan Hickson too

Excellent

Joan Hickson is Miss Marple in my opinion.
A bit longer than I expected, but then I've only see the TV versions prior to listening to the book.
Still very enjoyable.

Joan Hickson is perfect

One of my favourite Marple stories, even though the lady herself doesn't feature that much. Joan Hickson is fabulous - Marple to the bone :)

One the favourites

One of my favourite Books by Agatha Christie and was the first I ever own of the Miss Marple collection, as always Joan Hickson is the quintessential and remarkable voice over for the character she is for even today.

Hickson was always the best Marple. Her narration is perfect. Possibly one of the best Marple stories.

Joan Hickson is wonderful!

Joan Hickson is, for me, the quintessential Miss Marple. It was a delight to hear her reading the story (which differed from the TV adaptation).
