Summary

Polly Letofsky left her Colorado home and headed west across four continents and over 14,000 miles - by foot - to become the first woman to walk around the world. In a spirit of adventure, along with the goal of raising global awareness for breast cancer, strangers welcomed her into their homes. The world had embraced her. But in the middle of Polly's journey, 9/11 flung us all into a crossroads in world history, and she found herself navigating a vastly changing world.

Great story but screechy voice at times.

This is a fantastic story, well portrayed and thoroughly interesting. What a woman! However at times she does get a bit screechy which is a bit off putting. Can highly recommend it.

Fantastic, gripping and funny

I loved listening to this book, Polly Letofsky is a great narrator, full of humour and totally honest.
There were many laugh out loud moments, and times when I wondered how she would carry on. Such grit and determination is admirable.
Loving this so much, I really didn’t want the book to end.

Outstanding Narration

A well written adventure of a courageous lady. The narration was the most remarkable that I have ever listened to. The voices and the feeling that Polly puts into reading her own work overshadows any professional reading of any audiobook. I challenge anyone to better this. Truly an Oscar-worthy performance.

Inspiring and roll on the floor hilarious!

An incredible story comprised of hundreds of detailed little memories & moments that are recounted in Polly's own worlds. She chats to us like an old friend as we walk alongside her, through her epic walk around the world. You feel every step, every frustration & every small victory through her eyes, (and feet!) .

Some of the accents she tries are bordering on rasicst, that made it a real struggle to finish the book.

Not a bad story, shame about the accents

Would have liked more about the physical demands involved. Hated the terrible accents and patronising at times too

Fantastic… but

First of all, the achievement, the courage, the determination, and just the sheer wonder of what Polly did… just wow! I am in awe and greatly admire anyone that could do what she has done. I really really wanted to hear this story. The content itself is gripping and interesting. Her enthusiasm and tenacity must be second to none. Amazing.

However, for me, and I feel awful saying this as I’m sure Ms Letofsky would probably have similar comments about my nasal tones, but for me, I’m afraid I started to find Polly’s high pitched voice, and occasional shrieking, kinda grating after a while. Add to that the terrible attempts at accents (several reviews warned me) and I’ve had to stop with the audio book. I wasn’t offended by the accents as people some are, and at times they were quite comical, but they do get a bit toe-curling I thought.

So for me, despite the truly amazing story, it can only be 3 stars for the audio book. I will definitely be reading the book, for sure, but I’ve had to give up on the audio book which is a great pity. Sorry Polly. I still think you are amazing, and what you did is a true inspiration, but the audio book would be much better if read by someone else in my personal opinion.
