Editorial Review

American Grit
On 21 July, 2024, President Joseph R. Biden bowed out of the US presidential campaign and Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in. She had 107 days to mount a campaign, meet American citizens from coast-to-coast, debate, raise money (those fundraising Zooms were epic), and convince voters to elect her on November 5. The morning of the election in the States, I called a colleague and told her how emotional I felt. I couldn’t quite pinpoint if I was overwhelmingly happy that a Black woman was potentially going to call the White House home, or that she got this far. Now, 24 September, 2025, will be just as significant for me, since it’s when I will listen to Harris narrate her political memoir. It will undoubtedly lodge somewhere in my psyche forever. How could it not? Kamala Harris has a place in history that will never be erased. No one can take that away. No. One.—Yvonne D., Audible Editor

Kamala, great Vice President and Narrator

For a European it is quite interesting to get an insight to the American democracy. The amount of money you need to raise to be able to compete and the corruption that can come out of that is both scary and hard to grasp.
Harris comes through as an honest and really hard working person - it would have been interesting to see what she could have achieved as POTUS.

America a Democracy?

I’m really glad to have heard this revolutionary journey from the Vice Presidents POV. It’s been extremely eye opening to hear all that goes on behind the scenes and has made me admire her courageousness even more.

This was a very honest and reflective account of the countdown to the Presidential seat. I’m sad it didn’t happen for Kamala, but the vice President should be really proud of her achievements in such a short period of time.

“107 Days” is a great read/listen and I’m grateful to have been able to hear Kamala’s side of the story with the upmost integrity……in her own words. Thank you.

Very Insightful

Those 107 days are going to be written about so many times in the years to come. It was bittersweet listening to Kamala Harris narrate the campaign from her perspective, in an honest and candid way, but equally cathartic. What an amazing individual, who did so well in the most extreme and pressured of circumstances. A must-listen.

The most candid review of what happened

I originally bought this audiobook imagining it would be full of stories like the ones in the excerpts which were published prior to the book's release. It was not, but I found it didn't matter.
The book is written in a nice style which, while not exactly my cup of tea, is a positive. Equally, I found that Kamala has actually got a very good narration voice so it is quite easy to listen to.
As for the book's contents though, it obviously has a lot of political commentary and depending on who you are you'll either love it or hate it.
However, what I found to be somewhat jarring about this book is the incredible number of quotes from other people: politicians, activists, journalists, etc, that are just there to lavish praise on how great Kamala is as a campaigner
Needless to say this is made somewhat tragically ironic considering how we all know the election ended.
In the book itself she discusses how she often got frustrated with Joe Biden's team when they sugarcoated polls to him and they just blew hot smoke up his ass, yet it seems she has genuinely bought into all the praise she received.
She also spends a not inconsiderable amount of time blaming other people for the loss she suffered. Tim Walz, Joe Biden, CNN & Paramount, etc. Everyone is to blame but her and when there is no one to blame she blames the time table.
The book is thus a kind of fascinating look into the mind of Kamala Harris--someone who knew exactly what kind of mess she was jumping into when she took Joe Biden's place and yet feels like she was somehow cheated out of a longer election.
Republican or Democrat, American or Brit, I think people should be able to admit that Kamala Harris was someone who lost because of a whole host of factors, but one of those factors was her, and much of her electability flaws were her personal failings.
However, still, I found the book an interesting case study and I think so will everyone else who reads it.

An Unintentionally Ironic and Fascinating Work
