Ok for some of the basics

Dominance is an outdated concept. ( read "in defence of dogs"!) Despite this there was on the whole a focus on positive training methods and on being consistent and fair (ie not expecting a dog to understand a punishment that was for an error committed some time in the past) however it felt bitty especially in the spoken format were navigating the tips was difficult and it only really focused on sit down come and stay with its version of heal. I liked the explanation of the reasoning for teaching your dog to have food taken away mid eat to mimic the whims of children it might encounter since it seemed a pragmatic safety point but overall i still felt using the concept of dominance was too much of a fault to ignore.

Short & sweet. Helpful tips. Provided some good ideas to help us with training our 5 year old rescue. Liked the audible version.

Very efficient

Basic but contains good tips for those of us who are not natural dog whisperers.

Condensed Step Information

This is a great book for beginners as well as experienced novis trainers. It is great as a refresher. It primarily focuses on puppies but as mentioned, certainly can be used for older dogs and parents that need a refresher.
A first read is a great start for new dog owners, but it is great as a reference book.

Nice book for beginners

A good beginners training book. Teaches you the basics of dog training. Even helped me with my 7 month old chihuahuamix who I've already been training for months.

Very basic

Just from talking to friends I already 90% of the book. But it did Give
me a little structure and order where that was missing.
