I'm ambivalent regarding this novel. On the one hand, the character development is great as well as the setting. On the other hand, this is a story about a girl being kidnapped then developing Stockholm syndrome. It doesn't matter if the girl comes - it's still rape!

Then the virus came, turning the world’s population into zombies, and he became so much more. They were only kids, but he saved her. Watched over her. Kept her alive. And he’s been doing the same thing every day since.

This story caught my attention from the first second, and managed to keep it! Listened to it over 2 days, but it would have been 1 day if it wasn't for that pesky need to sleep. The focus is not on zombies, although there are some. The love story feels believable but not too overwhelming.

The narrator did an amazing job, and her slight Canadian accent truly made this an enjoyable listen. I can't wait to listen to the second book in the series!

Indra is an Outlier. Living on land that has not healed from the poison of the past, the Outliers have adapted - but to the Sovereign and the Fortis, they are nothing. For centuries the Fortis have made their abuse of Outliers a sport, but when Asa comes to Indra's rescue, she sees something different in him. Something that marks him as so much more than just a Fortis guard. But when Indra's world begins to unravel, even the quiet alliance she and Asa have formed cannot save her from the wrath of the Sovereign.

I absolutely love everything Kate L. Mary does, and this novel is no exception. She is able to capture the listener with well-developed characters and worlds. The class system brings my thoughts to present time, and it is scary to imagine that it might become a reality at some point. Indra is a strong young woman who is easily relatable seeing that she still has her flaws, just like everyone else. All in all, I strongly recommend this audiobook and everything else by this awesome author.

If I have to complain about something it will be that I don't really feel that the narrator did the book justice. She feels older than Indra, in the way she sounds and portrays the characters. I also found it quite difficult to hear the difference between the characters. However, she has a lovely, soothing voice which I think would be perfect when it comes to storytelling and fairytales. Keep in mind that this is my personal opinion, and you might love the way she narrates!

I love how this story is developing! The characters are interesting and well portrayed, and there's more than just the developing relationship. However, I still struggled a bit with this book. The issue I had was with the repetition of the first book. Sure, we got to hear it from a different perspective, but it wasn't different enough to make it enjoyable (in my opinion). As soon as the sisters were separated I started enjoying listening again. So, if you feel like I did when starting this audiobook, just hang in there!

The second novel in this series did not disappoint. It had several laugh-out-loud moments and more than a few giggle-to-myself ones.

In Zombie Island we still follow Mo, but we also get to see a couple of other's perspective. This only added to the story, and made it even better. Mo still continues writing his journal, but not every chapter. It has more action than the previous one, which was an added bonus!

S.W. Salzman did an outstanding job with the voices, all of which are easily distinguishable.

I'll be moving on to the next novel in this series, and I'm confident mr. Bonds will continue to amaze and amuse me!

This was a great listen, and a nice change from all the other cookie cutter zombie novels. Despite obviously following the same outline as others, it brought something new to the table which I thoroughly enjoyed. Armed with a rare sense of humor Javan Bonds tells the story of an ordinary guy and his ragtag group of friends just trying not to get eaten or bombarded with feces. The only thing I have to complain about is the accent, which sometimes causes trouble for a non-native English speaker like me, but that's when the speed button comes in handy. I look forward to the next installment!
