The narration was great, but I couldn't get into the story. Sometimes if I go back to a book at a later date in a different mood I enjoy it so I will try the book again in a few weeks time.

This just wasn't a book that I could connect with. I had also listened to a previous book by the narrator that I really enjoyed, but I didn't enjoy the narration on this book.

I am only part way through this book as it gets me so angry I have to walk away for a while and then come back and listen some more. I am one of those people that did not gel with school at all and I was always puzzled as to why some teachers just didn't grasp how to connect with pupils like me. Reading this book certainly gives me a much greater understanding of the level of arrogance amongst some within the teaching profession. I think this book should be read by all teachers (holding a mirror up to themselves might make them recognise how out of touch they are with pupils) and also by parents. I am long since beyond the school age, but have come away from this book feeling even more disillusioned by the whole system: it needs a radical overhaul and this book might help to achieve that.

I discovered Mumford and Sons from one record: I Will Wait and was immediately hooked by their energy and originality, so when I saw this book I couldn't wait to listen and I certainly wasn't disappointed.

For anyone who wants a clearer understanding of the lyrics as well as the background history to the group and the individuals within the group, then this is a great listen. I have listened to it once through in its entirety, but shall be listening to it again, at a much slower pace, as I work my way through the album.

It was an interesting listen, but it didn't help me find my inner magic. I learnt a lot about the lives of gifted people that persevered against all odds though.

Yes.

Any additional comments?

Though this was an interesting book there were points where I felt myself shaking my head in disagreement. One of those was the lemon issue which I feel needs the negatives pointing out: it can work hell with your joints and make arthritis far worse. The other was the diet issues. Having been raised on a 'healthy' meat and dairy diet, and then given up both, I can tell you that neither meat nor dairy are good for your health. Whey protein is just a by-product of the dairy industry and that industry has thought of clever ways to market the waste product. I would like to know who funded the research into whey protein as most research is funded by those that have financial vested interests in a product and surprise, surprise the research that isn't in their favour doesn't get published.

Despite those points the book was well written and performed.

What did you like best about this story?

It provided a fascinating glimpse into the history of the Santa Fe Trail and the animal inhabitants.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was deeply touched by the suffering of the animals at the hands of mankind. I wish we had moved on from these days, but sadly humans don't seem to learn.

Any additional comments?

Being from the UK I had little knowledge of this area of the US and only a cursory knowledge of many of the animals mentioned. There is a wealth of information and I shall certainly be listening to the book again, and recommending it to others that have an interest in the wildlife of the US.

What did you like best about this story?

The main character: Wade and his interaction with the multiple women in his life.

Which character – as performed by Peter Husmann – was your favourite?

Wade.

Any additional comments?

This was a good clean (no guts, gore or foul language) mystery with an excellent narrator. Easy light listening and I would definitely look at other books with either the same narrator or author.

What disappointed you about "D" Is for Drunk?

I found the book too slow going: I got to chapter 10 and little seemed to have happened.

Any additional comments?

It isn't my kind of book, but I would try other books by the author as I rarely like all the works of any author.

This is a book that I have read on many occasions as it really is a masterpiece, so I already new the story. At first I didn't think I would be able to continue listening to the book as I wasn't enjoying the narration, but I persevered and enjoyed it in the end.
