It was meant to be a harmless stag-night prank. A few hours later Michael Harrison has disappeared, and his friends are dead. With only three days to the wedding, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace - a man haunted by the shadow of his own missing wife - is contacted by Michael's beautiful, distraught fiancée, Ashley Harper. Grace discovers that the one man who ought to know Michael Harrison's whereabouts is saying nothing.

Having just finished the Frieda Klein stories by Nicci French, I was looking for a worthy replacement... Scared that I couldn't find one, I bought this. WOW! Fantastic, I enjoyed it thoroughly (couldn't stop listening to it!) and am thrilled that this is a long, long series of books! I'm going to start the second in the series straight away. If in doubt, BUY IT!

When a corpse is found floating in the River Thames, the police can at least be sure that identifying the victim will be straightforward. Around the dead man's wrist is a hospital band. On it are the words 'Dr F. Klein'. But psychotherapist Frieda Klein is very much alive. And, after evidence linking her to the murder is discovered, she becomes the prime suspect.

This whole series has been thoroughly enjoyable. The stories are interesting and the characters get better with familiarity.
Beth Chalmers narrates brilliantly- great accents and tones- completely believable drawing you into the story.
My only criticism would be that sometimes in chapters that have several different parts there is not enough time to establish a change of topic/scene/environment. I listen mostly when I walk or drive and would be rewinding I confusion to see how or where I missed the change of topic.
However I will miss Frieda, Karllson, Joseph, Chloe et al...very entertaining. Thank you
